Greetings from Capps. We trust that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. Ours was small and simple but we re grateful for the many blessings we have. It was also great to receive the much needed 1.5 inches of rain last weekend. My reporting about the stalled demolition work at Capps Full Gospel was premature as they had the entire building scraped and carted away by the end of the day on Saturday. Capps Batavia Fire Department had our monthly training meeting on Monday. We have several outstanding young firefighters who have joined the ranks over the last year or so and it looks like one of them is going to be our firefighter of the year, stand by for news. Recognizing people who go above and beyond is important to us and having several who are deserving is a good problem. I saw that Matt Odom, one of our Assistant Chiefs, has decided to run for a JP seat on the Quorum Court. We wish him luck in that venture. The annual Capps-Batavia Community Thanksgiving

Greetings from Capps. Well, when it rains it pours, so they say, and it got really busy for the Capps Batavia Fire Department starting overnight a week ago Thursday night. We responded to a fire caused by a lightning strike at a mobile home in Batavia early Friday morning, then on Saturday night, assisted the Omaha crew with a structure fire there. We also worked 2 vehicle accidents on Highway 392 and last Monday night, held the awards ceremony for District Chief Tim Hunter. He received the Jack Williams Award for first responders presented by the Harrison American Legion post. Equity Bank sponsored the event and provided grilled fare for the attendees. Lots of folks in the Capps area are putting up hay this week, including yours truly. I broke the driveshaft on my mini baler and my Pastor, Ricky Stone, helped me get it repaired. He worked many years for Kubota and John Deere while also being a minister. I m plugging away on tree and flower garden transplanting for Jennifer. Slowly but

Greetings from Capps. We had about 1.2 inches of much-needed rain last Tuesday night with more in the forecast. I m grateful that Fall came a bit early this year. It makes doing outside work more pleasant. This is a good time to burn brush and clean up before it gets windy, it s also great weather for transplanting trees and shrubs cole crops. I ve got a few loblolly pines to get in the ground as well as some roses and peonies. The Capps Batavia Fire Department responded to several vehicle accidents over the last week or so and calls for fires have been minimal over the summer. Tim Hunter, one of our Assistant Chiefs, will be honored on Monday night at the Capps Firehouse by the American Legion for exemplary service as a first responder. He s also taken the lead in the preparation for our upcoming inspection by ISO, putting in many, many hours of time checking hydrants and updating records. One of our goals is to be able to potentially expand our facility at Capps to facilitate improve

Greetings from Capps. Thank the good Lord for some cooler, dryer weather. I ve been finishing up my second cut of hay so it s been nice working weather. I may have some available bales this weekend if I can get them done. They ll still be $5 each for now but will go up a buck next time due to being so labor intensive. Our new baby goat kid, Lil Baby, is growing like a weed and jumping around all over the place. Capps Batavia Fire Department had our monthly training meeting last Monday night and we cleaned the station and the trucks top to bottom in preparation for our upcoming inspection. Since Diversified Services closed, I ve been taking Emergency Medical Technician training at Northark so you may see me working on an ambulance someday, who knows? Blessings, Doug

Greetings from Capps. Please forgive me for mis-advertising the Homesteaders Swap Meet for last Saturday. I should have checked the Facebook page before sending in my article. As far as I know, it won t be held again until the first Saturday in August but..stand by.for news, as Paul Harvey used to say. This writer has a significant milestone birthday coming up next week. Comparing myself with Moses, I m about halfway to the finish line if the Lord tarries. I m still looking for work and helping brother Terry Estes out with his contract cleaning in the interim. My wife s sister is moving to North Carolina soon so I ll be driving a U-haul out there with her things. I m also hoping to be cutting hay again by mid August if we can get a bit more rain. The guest minister at Capps Full Gospel, Marcus Ragsdale, was very good last Sunday evening. He hails from the Gassville area where he has just pioneered a church.
