Greetings from Capps. My angel neighbors down the road (you know who you are) brought us two quarts of beans and some cornbread on Monday. It hit the spot on a cold day. Tuesday morning, (-15 wind chill) my neighbor Merlin cut down and sawed up two snags in my pasture. They ll be good firewood for his new stove. The good news is that as of today, Wednesday, the temperature is finally above freezing. It got so cold out here that my goosebumps had goosebumps on them! I lost track of how many buckets of warm water I hauled to the animals but it was a lot. Thankfully, the cows have a stock tank heater and I have a few other heated bowls. Capps Batavia Fire received the anticipated, "I smell gas" calls from the Highway 392/397 area. When the temperature drops significantly, there is a pressure relief valve that releases gas at the pumping station. That being said, better safe than sorry and if you smell gas inside your home, move outside and leave the door open to help ventilate,

Comparing myself with Moses, I m about halfway to the finish line if the Lord tarries. I m still looking for work and helping brother Terry Estes out with his contract cleaning in the interim. My wife s sister is moving to North Carolina soon so I ll be driving a U-haul out there with her things. I m also hoping to be cutting hay again by mid August if we can get a bit more rain.
