Greetings from Capps. It was a busy week in our area. Last Saturday, several members of the Capps Batavia Fire Department, including myself and Chief Matt Harris, attended the "Difference Maker s Summit" on Terrapin Creek Road.
Greetings from Capps. Last week saw the return of the glowing yellow orb and warmer temperatures, almost T-Shirt weather. The road patches by ARDOT 392 and Boone County at Creel didn t last long. It s starting to look a bit lunar in the area. They don t plan to resurface Hwy 392 through Capps and Batavia until 2026 the last time I checked. I d like to believe that Northwest Arkansas isn t the state s "stepchild" when it comes to road projects ( unless of course they re in the I-49 corridor) but it sure seems that way sometimes. The memorial service for Mildred Sparks was held at Capps Full Gospel Church on Tuesday. The work continues on the fellowship hall there at the church. Coincidentally, the fellowship hall at Restoration Life Fellowship in Batavia is getting a major renovation done as well. Greetings from Capps. I stopped by an estate sale on Capps last weekend that was at the home of now-deceased JC and Maxine Flippo, longtime Capps residents. Their daughters, Patricia, Connie and Janet provided me with a wealth of information about their family, Capps historical tidbits and also fond memories of Flora Worthington and the little store in Capps. It seems that each local family had a little ticket book which she kept in a box that she used to keep their "tab" until they would come in and pay. The store building also housed the Post Office for many years, how can we get that started back up? In other news, their was a horrible car wreck at Capps and Creel Road early Sunday morning. 2 people were airlifted from the Capps Full Gospel parking lot. Their were rumors of a large, underage drinking event in the area but not sure if the 2 were related. An older woman stopped at the roadblock and claimed she had been trying to get back to Branson from Harrison since 3 pm o
Greetings from Capps. It s hard to believe it s only a few more weeks until Christmas. Where has the year gone? The Christmas party for Capps Batavia Fire Department went well last Saturday night. Two of our officers smoked pulled pork and ribs for the event and we awarded our top firefighters, including our firefighter of the year, Patrick Young, from the Batavia station. We responded to a 2 car rollover wreck on Highway 65 on Monday night. A few people went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Capps Full Gospel Church Christmas program will be Dec. 10 and 17 and at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. services. Morning services only on Christmas Eve day. Our new neighbors still have several adorable Australian Shepherd puppies left that need homes. Feel free to contact me if you know someone who is interested. Blessings, Doug
Greetings from Capps. I trust that everyone had a meaningful Thanksgiving without too many side affects. Ours was quiet with a few friends and way too much food but we survived nonetheless. The Capps Batavia Fire Department as well as several other departments participated in the Christmas parade last week. Capps Full Gospel Church won first place with their Glory of Angels float, kudos to them for helping put Capps on the map. Restoration Life Fellowship in Batavia is letting us use their facility for our fire department Christmas party this weekend, thanks to them for doing that again this year. On a personal note, I m down to finals for my EMT training so say a prayer for me that I will do well. I ve studied and done as well as I can so hopefully by the end of next week I ll be a full fledged EMT. Blessings, Doug
