7 00 oclock tonight. 15th district officers were in the area of 2100 Bridge Street conducting a narcotics investigation when they heard gunshots. An officer in an unmarked car went to check it out. Police say thats when group of men pointed guns in the officers direction and fired several shots. One hit the unmark ford taurus while the officer was still in the drivers seat. The three to four people that were seen firing shots at police were in very close proximity to the front of the police car. The police car was definitely struck by gunfire. The officer driving the police car never got a chance to get out of the car when the shots were fired. Reporter fortunately that officer was not shot. A bullet went through the front bumper into the radiator causing fluid to leak all over the street. Police say they found about five shell casings from a large semiautomatic gun in front of the police car. They say about 10 more were found about half block away indicating there had been a shootout
