Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Saturday’s doubleheader between Goodland and Scott City matched up a pair of teams that looked to take some momentum into the final month of the regular season. It would end up being a doubleheader split as the Goodland Cowgirls never trailed in a 57-37 victory, while the Beaver boys rallied for a 54-43 victory. The No. 8 ranked team entered Scott City on a tear from the previous night, as they dominated Lakin 52-20. It would be the Cowgirls who would continue their defensive domination early on. Goodland would lead 8-7 after the first period of play. Scott City had their chances to lead late in the first and early second quarters, but were unable to get over the hump. Cimarron, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Friday night’s girls game with Scott City and Cimarron was a game that truly was a tale of two halves. The Lady Beavers would come out and make a statement with their defense early one, while the second half saw the Lady Blue Jays get hot and dominate the glass. Cimarron would outscore Scott City 34-6 in the second half to take a 52-30 win on Friday night at Cimarron High School. The boys game was postponed, due to the Cimarron boys being put in quarantine on Wednesday.
The game would be back and forth early on, as they team exchanged the lead three times in the opening eight minutes, as the Lady Beavers took a 9-8 lead after the first period. Scott City expanded on their run, and used an 8-2 run over the first four-plus minutes of the second frame to lead 17-10 with 3:36 left before halftime. Every Lady Bluejay rally would see a response by the Lady Beavers, as they would take a 24-18 lead at the break.
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Both Hugoton and Scott City wrapped up play in the Sterling Invitational on Friday, and on Tuesday night, they met up at the Scott Community Event Center for a GWAC doubleheader. The visitors from Hugoton would continue their hot streaks, as they would sweep the doubleheader, as the Lady Eagles took a 57-21 win, while the Eagle boys pulled away in the final period in a 67-47 win.

The No. 3 team in the state started out with 10 points in the first two minutes and never looked back. Hugoton would jump out to a 10-0 lead and lead 16-5 after one period, and use another 10-0 run to lead 26-7 midway through the second quarter. Scott City could pull no closer than 26-11 with 50 seconds left before halftime, as the Lady Eagles continued their hot shooting throughout, scoring 23 unanswered to lead 49-11 with 3:16 left in the third frame. Sterling, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver team knew it would be a big task to open up Sterling Invitational Tournament play on Monday night against the No. 1 team in Class 2A. Sterling entered 9-0 and have won all but one game by more than 10 points.
The Lady Bears would prove too much, leading wire to wire in a 66-36 victory, spoiling the Lady Beavers debut in the tournament.
Sterling jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first five minutes, before Scott City got to within seven at 13-6 with 2:16 left in the opening frame. However, the Lady Bears scored the next seven, leading 20-6 in the first minute of the second period. Sterling would slowly nudge their lead larger, never allowing Scott City to go on a run, as they took a 27-12 lead at the break.
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Playing in their final games before midseason tournaments next week, the Holcomb Longhorns would make the short trip to Scott City to face the Beavers. With both teams dropping their previous games, something would have to give.
