JUST WHEN THE RESTAURANT WAS ALLOWED TO OPEN THEIR DINING ROOM TO 75% CAPACITY WHEN THE COUNTY REACHED TURQUOISE LEVEL NOW, THEY’RE BACK IN THE RED WITH ONLY OUTDOOR DINING. EVERYBODY IS JUST DEVASTATED IN AND NOBODY SEEMS TO CAN UNDERSTAND THE FAIRNESS OF THIS SETUP. The American Legion District 8 Oratorical Scholarship Contest was held at Dodge City Post 47 on Sunday, Feb. 21.
Three contestants gave presentations about the U.S. Constitution in a prepared presentation.
The presentation was from Article II Section 3 of the Constitution which states:
He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.
Cimarron, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The first two matchups between the Cimarron and Scott City boys were postponed, and Saturday afternoon, the teams finally were able to face off at Cimarron High School. While the Beavers led it most of the way, the Bluejays would make a push late. Scott City would hold off Cimarron in the end and pick up the 45-40 road win.
The opening eight minutes would see the lead change five times. Cimarron led 9-8, before the Beavers scored the first six points of the second quarter to lead 14-9 with 6:17 left before the break. Cimarron would score the next five points to pull to within 14-13 with five minutes left in the half. Scott City scored eight of the 11 points of the half to take a 22-18 lead.
Cimarron, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Friday night’s girls game with Scott City and Cimarron was a game that truly was a tale of two halves. The Lady Beavers would come out and make a statement with their defense early one, while the second half saw the Lady Blue Jays get hot and dominate the glass. Cimarron would outscore Scott City 34-6 in the second half to take a 52-30 win on Friday night at Cimarron High School. The boys game was postponed, due to the Cimarron boys being put in quarantine on Wednesday.
The game would be back and forth early on, as they team exchanged the lead three times in the opening eight minutes, as the Lady Beavers took a 9-8 lead after the first period. Scott City expanded on their run, and used an 8-2 run over the first four-plus minutes of the second frame to lead 17-10 with 3:36 left before halftime. Every Lady Bluejay rally would see a response by the Lady Beavers, as they would take a 24-18 lead at the break.
