henriville, indiana. reporter: the echo of chain saws cuts through henriville, a community all sered to its core. mother nature may have delivered the first violent shock, but the fight here is far from over. an army of volunteers pulling out and piling up what they can. the weapons in this war to survive include front loaders, backhoes, and at times along the front lines of this disaster, the battle is hand to hand combat. people from everywhere are coming to help. just the fact that in a time like this that people can really just come, people that don t know each other can come and help and bring what resources they have. reporter: many are drawn here because they understand the possibility that they could be next. it s incredible. by the grace of god, ten miles south and it would have been me. i couldn t imagine all my things laying all over the ground. i couldn t. reporter: looking for anything that might seem normal in this mess, a handful of survivors gathered
overnight. it was going to be an assembly room and homeless shelter but no one got a permit. police moved in. the bar like building went up overnight. demonstrators say they had architects and engineers draw up plans. we built it and there s a lot of people who are cold. going to have this be green technology way of keeping people warm. it was also going to be used for our general aassembly we have every day. reporter: police say they didn t have a permit and police say it had to come down. protestors ignored the 11:45 a.m. deadline to remove the structure. [yelling] reporter: some sat inside it. others went up on the roof, refusing to go. the police started arresting them. a city building inspector declared the structure unsafe after 5:00. and police issued more warnings for the 6 holdouts on the roof to come down. an armored vehicle arrived along with a giant air bag and a cherry picker. after some coaxing, two jumped into the air bag. it took an officer in a cherry p
