terribly unjust to all of us. reporter: siegel claims that johnson is homeless and suffers from mental illness and that once in jail, johnson was not given his psych medication. siegel says that led to a scuffle with the guard and though the guard was not hurt, johnson now faces a felony assault charge. to have a situation where he winds up spending the rest of his life in prison because of a essentially a tug of war over a blanket. reporter: dan pneumoseason with the campaign trying to reform the three strikes law. he says the original intent of three strikes was to put repeat violent felons behind bars. but he says that s not the reality. the reality is that along with some violent felons being locked up for life, some other folks are being scooped up, people who steal socks or pizza and what that does, by putting them behind bars forever is cost the state a lot of money and use the space in these overcrowded prisons so that we are unable to lock up the monsters.
