West Springfield man, 18, killed when vehicle hits pole in Holyoke

HOLYOKE An 18-year-old West Springfield man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on County Road on Sunday night, according to the Holyoke Fire Department and Hampden district attorney’s office.
The driver struck a utility pole in the area between Bluemer Road and Camp Jahn Road, the Holyoke Fire Department said on its Facebook page, and the car was “engulfed in flames” with wires down when Holyoke and Southampton police arrived at the scene at 554 County Road at about 10:30 p.m.
Fire crews extinguished the flames “fairly quickly,” according to the department, but the driver had died in the vehicle. No other people were in the vehicle.

HOLYOKE A driver killed late Sunday night in fiery crash on County Road is believed to be an 18-year-old West Springfield resident, according to the Hampden district attorney’s office.
James Leydon, communications director for Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni, said officials are still trying to confirm the victim’s identity before disclosing their name.
The driver died at the scene the crash on County Road, near Bluemer Road and Camp Jahn Road.
Police and firefighters responded to the scene at 10:30 p.m. The vehicle struck a utility pole and took down electrical wires.
