Officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) acknowledge the occurrence of fish kill incidents but state that no official record is maintained. They explain that these incidents are commonly observed before the monsoon season, when rainwater carrying sewage enters the lakes, deteriorating water quality.
BBMP posts home guards at lakes in three shifts. For a standard-size lake, the requirement is a minimum of four to five home guards, all three shifts combined. However, for a big water body spread beyond 60 to 70 acres, a minimum of five home guards per shift is needed.
