The team is expected to assess if there was negligence on the part of the forest department BHUBANESWAR: The central team delegated by the Union ministry of forests and environment (MoEF) to assess losses caused by fires in Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) held a discussion with the additional chief secretary (forests), Mona Sharma, on Monday. The team, comprising Amit Mallick, inspector general of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), and Subrat Mahapatra, deputy director general of the MoEF’s regional office here, also visited core areas and the fire-ravaged stretches of STR. It also visited the Kuldiha and Chandaka wildlife sanctuaries before arriving here to meet the state government official.

Bhubaneswar DCP Uma Shankar Dash BHUBANESWAR: The commissionerate police issued a WhatsApp number 7077798111 for citizens to report street crimes, including snatching, harassment and eve-teasing in the capital city. Police have also urged the citizens to share credible information, photo and video on street crimes and criminals on the WhatsApp number. “We will start the service from Tuesday. The WhatsApp number will be functional in addition to the dial 100 emergency number. We urge people not to call on the WhatsApp number. They should only send messages, photos and videos on street crimes and criminals. Details of the informers will not be disclosed,” deputy commissioner of police Uma Shankar Dash said.

Developed and managed by the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC), under the state information and technology department, in partnership with some global tech giants, the dashboard became one of the most searched platform not just for policy-makers but for health experts, journalists, data analysts, researchers and most importantly, information-hungry public.
