BHUBANESWAR: Normalcy failed to return to the assembly even as speaker Surya Narayan Patro chaired two all-party meetings to end the deadlock that has been continuing for the last four days.
Members of the treasury and opposition benches continued to protest as soon as the House assembled at 10:30 am, forcing the speaker to adjourn it till 11:30 and later till noon and then till 4 pm.
While members of the treasury bench protested in the well of the House, demanding an apology from BJP MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi for attempting suicide inside the assembly, the opposition BJP and Congress raised issues related to paddy procurement. As chaos continued, no business was conducted yet again. BHUBANESWAR: The proceedings of the state assembly were washed out for the third straight day on Monday with members of both the treasury and opposition benches sticking to their respective demands and continuing with their protests in the well of the house.
While BJD MLAs demanded an apology from Deogarh MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi (BJP) for his suicide attempt on the floor of the house, the opposition BJP and Congress continued to protest over the alleged irregularities in the procurement of paddy.
The important discussions of various departments and other crucial businesses could not be taken as members of both the sides started protesting as soon as the House assembled at 10.30am. Chaos forced speaker SN Patro to adjourn the house repeatedly both in the pre and post-lunch sessions.

Deogarh BJP lawmaker Subhash Chandra Panigrahi on Friday had tried to consume a bottle of sanitiser in a bid to commit suicide when food supplies, consumer welfare and cooperation minister Ranedra Pratap Swain was giving a reply on non-procurement of paddy of farmers from the mandis (wholesale market yards) in the afternoon. The BJP legislators accused the Odisha government of neglecting the problems of farmers.

BHUBANESWAR: The Opposition onslaught against the State government over mismanagement in paddy procurement and farmers’ problems took an extreme turn in the Odisha Assembly on Friday with BJP MLA from Deogarh, Subash Chandra Panigrahi attempting suicide by consuming sanitiser in the House.
The incident took place during the post lunch session when Minister for Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Ranendra Pratap Swain was making a statement on paddy procurement by the State government. Panigrahi whipped out a sanitiser bottle and attempted to drink it but was prevented by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha and some other MLAs, who were nearby.
