BHUBANESWAR: Normalcy failed to return to the assembly even as speaker Surya Narayan Patro chaired two all-party meetings to end the deadlock that has been continuing for the last four days.
Members of the treasury and opposition benches continued to protest as soon as the House assembled at 10:30 am, forcing the speaker to adjourn it till 11:30 and later till noon and then till 4 pm.
While members of the treasury bench protested in the well of the House, demanding an apology from BJP MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi for attempting suicide inside the assembly, the opposition BJP and Congress raised issues related to paddy procurement. As chaos continued, no business was conducted yet again. Though Patro convened an all-party meeting in the pre-lunch session, it remained inconclusive as Congress followed by BJP staged a walkout alleging that the speaker had started discussion on the treasury bench’s demand for an apology from P

BHUBANESWAR: The proceedings of the state assembly were washed out for the third straight day on Monday with members of both the treasury and opposition benches sticking to their respective demands and continuing with their protests in the well of the house.
While BJD MLAs demanded an apology from Deogarh MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi (BJP) for his suicide attempt on the floor of the house, the opposition BJP and Congress continued to protest over the alleged irregularities in the procurement of paddy.
The important discussions of various departments and other crucial businesses could not be taken as members of both the sides started protesting as soon as the House assembled at 10.30am. Chaos forced speaker SN Patro to adjourn the house repeatedly both in the pre and post-lunch sessions.

Bhubaneswar: A BJP legislator on Friday attempted suicide by consuming sanitiser in the Odisha Assembly over paddy procurement issues in the state.
Subash Chandra Panigrahi, an MLA from Deogarh constituency, tried to consume sanitiser as a mark of protest when Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain was replying to the House on the paddy procurement issues.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha and other legislators managed to prevent Panigrahi from consuming sanitiser and recovered the toxic material from him.
