Bhandara (Maharashtra) [India], February 19 (ANI): An FIR has been registered against two nurses for criminal negligence on their part in connection with the Bhandara hospital fire incident which claimed the lives of 10 newborns last month, said Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Hemant Nagrale on Thursday.
Earlier, a panel had submitted a report on the incident. On the basis of that, Bhandara district surgeon Dr Pramod Khandate was suspended and additional district surgeon Dr Sunila Bade was transferred.
As many as 10 newborn children had died in a fire that broke in the Sick Newborn Care Unit at Bhandara General Hospital on January 9, officials said. (ANI)
FIR Registered Against Two Nurses in Maharashtra Hospital Fire Case
The FIR has been registered under IPC Section 304 part 2(culpable homicide not amounting to murder). Punishment can carry imprisonment for 10 years.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Director General of Police, Hemant Nagrale, on Thurs day, informed that an FIR has been registered against two nurses for criminal negligence in connection with the Bhandara hospital fire incident which led to the death of 10 newborn infants on January 9.
The FIR has been registered against nurses Shubhangi Sathavane and Smita Ambildhuke. According to reports, the services of both these nurses were earlier terminated. They were working on a contractual basis.

More than a month after the tragic fire that killed 10 infants in Maharashtra s Bhandara district, an FIR has been registered against two nurses for criminal negligence. The FIR has been registered in Bhandara Police Station under section 304 (II - act is done with knowledge that it is likely to cause death, but without any intention to cause death, etc.)

The inquiry report into the Bhandara district hospital fire which claimed the lives of ten newborns was submitted to the Maharashtra government on January 19. Sources in the inquiry panel told India Today TV that the unfortunate incident could have been avoided if there were promptness and coordination on the part of hospital staff.
