GASTON COUNTY, N.C. Police in Gaston County, North Carolina arrested charged a man with murder after investigators said he shot and killed a police officer during a break-in in Mount Holly Friday morning.
Authorities say Officer Tyler Avery Herndon, 25, was shot and killed while responding to the active break-in at the Mount Holly Car Wash just before 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Belmont, N.C. A Mount Holly officer has died after exchanging gunfire with a breaking and entering suspect at a car wash in Gaston County early Friday morning, according to police.
WCNC Charlotte reports the shooting occurred just before 4 a.m. at the Mount Holly Car Wash on Beatty Drive after officers engaged with a suspect, identified as Joshua Tyler Funk.
According to authorities, several shots were fired between the suspect and officers.
The officer was pronounced dead at CaroMount Hospital in Gastonia. The suspect, who is facing charges, suffered minor injuries, according to authorities.
