more like governor chris christie. it is hard to think who they think their audience is because they re running in a republican primary that, you know, now the republican base voter, ramaswamy, trump, that is seeming to be what they are looking for. nikki haley was great. but when you are hypocritical on attacks on spending and hedging on abortion compared to your other rivals on the stage and talking about defending u.s. aid for ukraine, these are all positions that may make sense in a general election audience, and maybe with some swing voting women. but i don t know how they re going to play also, what they believe, it is a conundrum. if the things that you believe are really far away from the core tenants of maga or trump politics and you re at 3% or 5% anyway, why not say what you think. i mean, like if you re goal in this race, chris christie for example, is to get republicans to rethink what they ve signed
based on his performance on 9/11. and there was a belief that the party had been reconfigured as a national security party. - there s no one running that has had the safety and responsibility of millions and millions of people on their shoulders under very difficult circumstances, and i m not just talking about september 11th. - but by 2008, the war had started to go quite badly, and a lot of americans, even a lot of republicans, viewed it very negatively. but also, you had to be right on taxes, abortion, and guns. he was wrong on three of those things for the republican base voter. - he was a new yorker with some progressive ideals. now, sometimes he would try to hide them. - it is a extreme asset to be the candidate with the most experience in this race. - for generations, members of both parties had tried to win the presidential nomination by building momentum,
them to be, but higher favorable ratings, which is a human being, as a person. so, it s not gonna be even. but i think at the end of the day, the stronger issue here will be he has to rely on people who voted against him in 2020 to come back, right. that s the case. or the turnout thing, which worries me a little bit. that s probably his safest route. and no one who s seeing all this. you know, it s not thin diamonds and what they re about, it s his reaction to them. like, do people really want to give him four more years? they were already done with a nightmare in 2020. and i think they are now. so, that s what david said, i think jim s point is an important one. generally, the party that wins the presidency is the one who s base voters are closest to the middle electorate. by the way, the democratic party from 68 to 92 was the one that s for the way for the middle elector. right now, there s no question that the republican base voter is further away from the middle electorate and d
and actually lead, like the word leadership means, to lead, and told the base voter that donald trump was corrupt, which we all know. andale no. they know is corrupt. they know he broke the law. if everybody would jump off the cliff until the voters the truth, yeah. there would be a path. because people would listen to them. instead, it s amazing to me what people are sitting around, reading this stuff about donald trump. they re probably open to, maybe this was wrong, maybe this was corrupt. and then they see ron desantis stand up and say, this is a weaponization of the doj. of course they re gonna believe it s a weaponization of the doj. because they trust ron desantis. they trust tim scott. they trust these people. these people that are running for president are failing their voters. they are not leading their voters. every day that goes by, when i watch people like desantis and
this had one. but to the point ufs trying to make, the anybody defense of the average republican base voter continues to strengthen around trump when nobody else criticizes him and tries to offer a much more stark contrast about what kind of candidate should lead the party into the future. thank you. appreciate it. this just in, north korea makes the first public comments about the soldier who crossed the dmz. that s next.
