On the streets of uptown, we spotted people in huge blankets trying to sleep. Many of the homeless shelters were at full capacity. Photos of exploding power lines and a small fire that broke out mack wood road. Crews worked through the Early Morning hours to reopen wilkerson boulevard. Yesterday, the Severe Weather caused a power line to fall and the poles to lean towards the road. Most of the damage we saw yesterday is with fallen trees. Several homes will need to be repaired including this home, the Charlotte Fire Department deemed unsafe to enter. They will need to find a new way to work after trees fell on their cars. He sent me a picture of the car and i was shocked. 45 to 60 seconds before the tree fell. And a local home owner tells me the city was supposed to come out here and remove this tree yesterday. Large tree that is across the road right now. It has been done since about 10 30 last night and as you can see, police are making sure drivers dont go into that area. You can see they have it blocked off until crews can get out there to remove the tree. Traffic team 9s mark taylor monitoring the situation. They have alternate routes for us just ahead. Part of a busy road in meyers park is still shut down. This is more than 14 hours after strong winds brought down this massive tree right into the road.
