bp protests in 50 cities today. a growing call if a boycott. trouble is experts say boycotting your local bp station is about as effective as those failed efforts to plug the massive oil leak. what do we want? reporter: outside bp s government affairs office in downtown d.c., a handful of protesters call on the federal government to seize bp s assets to pay for both the massive oil spill and its economic impact. we can t wait for 20 years of litigation. that company must pay all of the damages caused by their criminal negligence. reporter: and this isn t by far the only protest. there are growing calls around the country for a boycott of bp. we found customers split on the issue. i m boycotting bp right now. i m not going to their gas station. i don t think we should support the mess they made. reporter: others say the boycott misses the mark. i think that the boycott is not a good idea because it will affect the local retailers and not bp. i mean, they re not
