Odd-even In Delhi: The Delhi government has prepared a draft proposal for the implementation of the odd-even road rationing system from November 13 to November 20. The proposal exempts certain vehicles, including those used for medical emergencies, vehicles with women and children, electric vehicles, and vehicles for persons with disabilities. Violations of the system will result in a fine of INR 20,000. The Supreme Court has expressed doubts over the effectiveness of the scheme in controlling pollution. The government is awaiting the court s directive before announcing the details of the norms to be followed.
Delhi air pollution: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai held a meeting with a team from IIT-Kanpur on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of artificial rainfall through cloud seeding to bring down the AQI of the national capital.
The data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) also shows that Delhi s average air quality index (AQI) this year so far is the lowest for the corresponding period since 2019, except for 2020 - the year of the COVID-19 lockdown.
The national capital witnessed the maximum number of days with Good to Moderate Air Quality during the first four months from January to April, as per the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
