while ago having lasted less than two hours. now mayor richard m. daley is on the record supporting his police superintendent, but the mayor s recent decision to step aside leaves jody weis in limbo with his contract set to expire in a growing number of people clamoring for his resignation. some people better rise up to the occasion and start talking to mayor daley and say, listen what we are doing is not working. this isn t good for us and not for the citizens of chicago. we need to begin the search now for the new superintendent. this superintendent s contract is up on february 1. we shouldn t be wasting time until the last moment. harsh word for a vulnerable jody weis. embattled police superintendent is hearing it from all sides from chicago aldermen urging him to resign and from rank and file patrolmen. the superintendent is away from headquarters today but across a cross section of police officers hope to send a forceful message that he will hear loud and clear

had it locked up. the boys found the key. pierce s 14-year-old brother remains in custody. we were going to miss michael. michael was blessing to us for 12 years. we don t know how we will make it without him. reporter: michael pierce s family adopted him when he was four months old. his mother found him in the family s home on east 130 place last night. the 12-year-old was lying at bottom of the basement stairs with gunshot wounds to his head. pierce was pronounced dead about half hour after he was found. investigators say the evidence suggests this shooting was an accident. no charges have been filed. it had to be because they were like twins. they was when you saw one, you saw the other. they ran, played back and forth, up and down the block with rollers. whether those roller skates just fun kids. saw them last week sitting on the porch. like i say, known the family 40 years. real nice family. community activist andrew holmes visited with the 23578ly briefly

murder of a classmate. as the family of 16-year-old deantonio goss make funeral arrangements, police are moving fast in this case. the first murder of a cps student in the new school year. goss and an 18-year-old classmate were shot multiple times just blocks from the school as they walked home after classes. goss died soon after and the other student remains hospitalized. witnesses say the deadly violence was preceded by an argument in the school cafeteria hours earlier. the victim s father is a neighborhood peace activist who praised police on their work and he says it hardly matters that his son s killer may be a fellow bowen high school student. whether they went to school. went to the same school, go to another school, if they live next door to each other, next block, it s still sad that it is that we have so much anger in us that we feel the only thing we can do is kill. reporter: daryl jackson is now busy with funeral arrangements and tells me the somber occasion
