rules if you want to own a handgun in the city of chicago. earlier today,jody weis plans to spell out the new ordnance. americans have the right to own a gun for self-defense was ruled. some of the city s rules for owning a handgun include only one handgun purchased per month. you must register the gun with the police department. you can only carry the gun inside your home and no gun sales are allowed in the city. the city already challenges the new rules. one by gun dealers. on the wgn tv morning show that dealer s attorney ridiculed the city. they ve outlawed porches, backyards, it s just a suppressive ordnance that s designed to in effect squelch this second amendment right. reporter: once again, weis will detail this ordnance. you must first have a gun owners i.d. card and you must register your gun. you have to undergo a vision exam and fingerprinting. if you are found violating this law you can spend up to 90 days in jail. julie wang, wgn news. a man has been char

they were disappointed because they felt the supreme court had forced them to do. this they were disappointed they were put in this position but say they must play with the cards they are dealt. it s not only very troubling that we have to be here today to do this. it s very troubling the message that it s sending. alderman ?z. reporter: days after the supreme court essentially gutted chicago s long time hand gun ban. the high court rules americans have the right to own a gun for self-defense no matter where they live. in response, daley administration proposed a so- called responsible gun ownership ordinance. some the key provisions include $100 city firearm permit which you must renew every three imreemps gun training. only buy one hand gun per month. only one gun in the home can be operable and cannot carry the hand gun outside the home. some blasted the love affair with guns and it won t stop criminals from getting their hands on guns but this is a good stawrt. co

loo is live with details. reporter: good afternoon. the mayor was here to unveil his new gun ordinance just awhile ago. and now it appears poised to speed through the full city council like a bullet. aldermen are set to debate and vote on it tomorrow. our new ordinance allows a two step process to own and register a hand gun. this morning mayor daley was deliberate in outlining the city s new responsible gun ownership ordinance. flanked by over a dozen city aldermen, community leaders, activists and the police commissioner, the mayor stressed one of many reasons he is moving fast in response to the supreme court. the father and grandfather, nothing affects me more deeply and personally than violence in chicago. i lost a son because of an illness. an illness and it still stays with me. just think when you lose a child because of gun violence, he or she has done nothing wrong, that stays with them forever. under the new proposal, gun owners would require each wep woul
