GUWAHATI: The prime accused in the SI recruitment scam, former Karimganj SP (Superintendent of Police) Kumar Sanjit Krishna had struck a deal for leaking the question papers; and Rs 40 lakh changed hands in Guwahati.
According to CID sources, the deal was struck at a Zoo Road restaurant in Guwahati. On behalf of Kumar Sanjit Krishna, a couple received the amount of Rs 40 lakh as advance payment from broker Saroj Sarma.

Inquiry Committee Setup to Probe Irregularities in Dibrugarh University: Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has constituted a high-level inquiry committee to probe the irregularities allegedly indulged in by Prof. Ranjit Kumar Tamuli, Vice Chancellor (since suspended) of Dibrugarh University. The Governor is also the Chancellor of Tezpur University.
The three-member inquiry committee will be headed by former Judge of Gauhati High Court Dr Indira Shah as its Chairperson.

Gauhati University is its Member Secretary; and Dilip Kumar Dutta, Senior Accounts Officer (retd) of the Office of Principal Accountant General, Assam is member of the committee.
Baghjan villagers resort to blockade; talks with OIL today
The villagers of Baghjan, affected due to gas blowout from an oil well, resorted to indefinite oil blockade from Tuesday due to alleged non-payment of full compensation to them.

In a joint statement to the media issued by the president and the secretary of the Baghjan Gaon Milanjyoti Yuva Sangha (BGMYS), Satyajit Moran and Tikhnajit Hazarika respectively stated that they (the affected villagers of Baghjan) were not fully satisfied with the judgement pronounced by National Green Tribunal (NGT) on February 19.
