FALL RIVER A city police officer who testified to a grand jury he falsified police reports to protect a fellow officer was denied his attempt to halt police department disciplinary proceedings against him.
Superior Court Judge Thomas McGuire last month also denied Patrolman Thomas Roberts request to identify himself as plaintiff “John Doe” in the court case against the city, which was filed in February.
Roberts used the pseudonym when he filed the action against the city in February, but McGuire denied the use of a false name at the same time he denied his request for a preliminary injunction.
Why some Fall River police officers are learning Spanish
FALL RIVER Starting this week, a handful of Fall River police officers will take Spanish lessons in an effort to better to connect with the city’s growing Hispanic population.
“Sometimes small things can become big because there’s a lack in how they can communicate with each other,” said Felix Gonzalez, an organizer with United Interfaith Alliance of Southeastern MA.
Sixteen officers from the department, including eight who work in Fall River schools as School Resource Officers, will take three hours of classes per week over Zoom for the next 10 weeks.
