a time arguing them out of a theological position. this has become a matter of theology for evangelicals. as such, all the political arguments, in fact, facts themselves, do not apply. evangel caps are absolutists. you mentioned my book, the title denotes a sense that there is paradox in this world and people who are certainty addicts tend to do bad things i ve never heard of anybody blowing up an abortion clinic or a white police officer shooting a black man or someone bombing a mosque after they shout but i could be wrong. that s the problem with evangelicals today, they never think about the alternative. since trump has been accepted as part of their absolutist theology, there s no arguing with it. that s why they ll support him to the bitter end. to your point, if you look at the polling, a new pew poll, white evangel caps stand out
much at variance with those who are absolutists about the constitution. it s an issue in american politics. things should be based on merits not a rigid philosophy. bill: if they go to the supreme court roberts, alito, gorsuch and do they challenge in california? does the administration win? i think we do. we re right on the facts. california and other jurisdictions now we re seeing local municipalities pushing back. they don t want to be part of sanctuary cities. now they re being threaten the state that somehow they re going to be held to account within the state if they violate the sanctuary city laws. we shouldn t have the supreme court acts as a legislature. we did that for eight years
background checks and what s happened in the interim period is something that we couldn t have foreseen, the internet. the gun show loopholes so we can t even act to update the original intention of the brady law which was to have universal background checks. now, that would be, you know, progress going forward, but we re now in such a horrific state in terms of gun violence in this country that you do see these kids going with assault weapons, going for something that just a few years ago that was considered nonstarter on capitol hill. and you have a situation that even conservatives that are absolutists on guns, they re starting to ask questions about it and that is, why are we having so many of these copy cat type mass shootings at high schools and that is you can look if you look overall, crime rates are dropping in most
tyrannical government is coming to take everyone s guns. it s a fancy. we re the greatest democracy in the history of the world. and every gun law that s ever been passed has not moved to take anyone s guns. in you can still own machine guns in america. s submachine guns, silencers, all kinds of weapons as long as they re registered with atf. in 68 you could even come in in an amnesty period and ledgester them with no penalty. the assault weapons ban didn t take one assault weapon from one person that was existing. everything was grandfathered in. this is all fantasy drummed up to make, you know, the extremists and absolutists get what they want. so, really you got to look at the real till. and the reality is people were being slaughtered in schools, colleges, movie theaters, ball games, and you got to look at that. a true heartless and senseless reality here. jim cavanaugh, thank you so much for your input. thanks for joining us this morning. next, the specter of scandal. will
