Saliba - an excellent choice for city council

David Schaen April 29, 2021 Khalil Saliba is an excellent choice for Lewes City Council on May 8.  Khalil, the son of a Beebe physician, grew up in Lewes and has a genuine dedication to the preservation of our town’s unique qualities.  As Lewes and surrounding area populations grow, it will be challenging to maintain the special character that is Lewes.  We will be best served as a community to have thoughtful, knowledgeable, and respected leaders such as Khalil at the helm.  Khalil currently demonstrates a selfless interest in the well-being of Lewes through his board member roles with the Beebe Medical Foundation and the Greater Lewes Foundation.  In the recent past, he has also dedicated his time to serve on the Police Department Review Committee and the Lewes Beach Parking Committee.  Khalil has a reputation for listening to all sides of issues and carefully crafting effective, yet reasonable, resolutions for the benefit of all Lewes residents.

February 2, 2021 Giles named new beach patrol captain Rehoboth Beach announced Jan. 28 that Jeffrey Giles, a 30-year veteran of the Delaware State Police, has been named as the new beach patrol captain. Giles, a Delaware native, held several DSP leadership positions, including supervising the maritime and scuba units. He also served on the safety committee for the annual Special Olympics Delaware Lewes Polar Bear Plunge that takes place in Rehoboth Beach. Rehoboth Beach Police Chief Keith Banks said Giles served five summers as a member of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol, including as a lieutenant, before he was with the state police.

January 22, 2021 Milton Town Council to meet Jan. 27 Milton Town Council will meet at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27, at the Cannery Village clubhouse, to hold an executive session and adopt the fiscal year 2021 tax rate. While the executive session will be closed to the public, the tax rate vote will be conducted in open session. Milton traffic calming committee to meet Milton’s Traffic Calming Advisory Ad Hoc Committee will hold its first meeting at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Cannery Village clubhouse. The committee was formed to look at ways to reduce speeding through Milton. The first meeting will include discussion and a possible vote on approaches to reducing speed, research on traffic management, and review of traffic measures already in place, large truck traffic, dangerous intersections, crosswalks and signs. January 19, 2021 Rehoboth streets committee to meet The Rehoboth Beach Streets and Transportation Committee has scheduled an online meeting for 9 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 21. The agenda calls for a review of crosswalks throughout the city, traffic circle issues and a Surf Avenue bike lane. December 15, 2020 Milton council to meet Dec. 15 Milton Town Council will meet at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Milton Town Hall to discuss and possibly vote on ordinances related to two annexation petitions. The first petition is for Milton Attainable Housing LLC, which is seeking to annex 26 acres at the corner of Route 16 and Country Road, that would then be developed into 239 housing units and four pad sites for commercial businesses.  The second petition is for BBD LLC, on behalf of Stephen and Lynn Dexter, who wish to annex a nearly 8-acre parcel at the intersection of Route 16 and Union Street Extended, and then develop it as a commercial office and storage facility.
