New tourism impact study on Coachella Valley Arena
The Greater Palm Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) announced on Monday their study on the tourism impact for the Coachella Valley Arena, a new state-of-the-art sports and entertainment arena in the Thousand Palms community of Riverside County.
The arena is being privately financed by Oak View Group (OVG), the global venue development, advisory, and investment company for the sports and live entertainment industries.
The impact study looks ahead to the arena s full one-year period of operation in 2023, examining the benefits driven by the visitor component of expected events at the arena, which include professional sports, concerts, family shows, and conventions and conferences.
One person is dead after a fatal two-vehicle crash at Ramon Road and Vista Del Sol in Thousand Palms on Friday, according to Cal Fire.
Officer Jackie Quintero, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman, said a Honda Civic driven by a 30-year-old Hispanic male crossed over the double yellow line and hit the other vehicle head on killing the driver.
Two people suffered moderate to major injuries and were transported by hospitals by ambulance.
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the collision, but no other details were released.
The crash was reported at 3:07 p.m. and is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

John Clement Williams of Thousand Palms is suspected of molesting two sisters between the years of 2008 and 2009, when one of the girls was between 4 and 5 years old and the other was between 7 and 8.
After swearing the jurors in, Riverside County Superior Court Judge Matthew Perantoni ordered them to return to the Riverside Hall of Justice on Tuesday morning, when opening statements are expected.
Williams is charged with six counts of committing lewd acts on a child under 14 year old, and faces sentence-enhancing allegations of committing sex offenses on multiple victims.
