First 2 wildfires of 2021 ignite in the Kamloops Fire Centre
It appears that wildfire season could be starting sooner rather than later in 2021.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, the first two wildfires of the year ignited in the Kamloops Fire Centre on Saturday. The first sprouted up on Shuswap Road in Kamloops while the other occurred near Farleigh Lake Road, just east of Penticton.

The Shuswap Road blaze grew to just 0.30 hectares in size. It is classified as a new fire.
The low cloud, snow and moderate temperatures that created treacherous conditions for aircraft and motorists on Monday are expected to give way to sunshine and cold later today.
Anne McCarthy, weather services spokeswoman for Environment Canada, said the sky will clear this afternoon, winds will pick up and temperature will plunge to 7 C by tonight.
The weather gets colder as the week progresses, with overnight lows reaching a frigid 12 C before wind chill on Wednesday, she said.
The forecast was the best news airport manager Fred Legace heard in days. For the second consecutive day Monday, flights were cancelled at Fulton Field. Air Canada was hit the hardest, with three aircraft unable to land by noon.
