With wind in the forecast, Kamloops Fire Centre urges caution on open burning

The BC Wildfire Service is urging members of the public to not conduct any open burning until the windy conditions pass as wind can cause grass fires to spread quickly, as has already been seen earlier this spring. As of April 23, there have been 121 wildfires in B,.C., 30 of which remain active. Fifteen of those active blazes are in the Kamloops Fire Centre, which stretches from the Lillooet area in the west to east of Vernon and from the Canada/U.S. border in the south to Wells Gray Provincial Park in the north. It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that burning is done in a safe manner and is in accordance with regulations. Before lighting any fire, it is advised to monitor the upcoming weather forecast and check with local governments to determine if any local burning restrictions are in place.
