morning. we are covering it all morning yesterday. 37-year-old officer kenyon youngstrum fighting for his life this morning. he stopped a jeep yesterday morning in alamo, the l not ide fire. we have team coverage. claudine wong is at the chp office with an update but first alex savage is at the medical center with the vigil for officer youngstrum, alex. >> reporter: good morning, yes, the officer's family is asking everyone to offer their prayers as doctors here at the medical center work to save his life. the wounded officer has relatives from around the country on their way here right now. he is in icu and remains in critical condition. last night the chp identified him as 37-year-old kenyon youngstrum, colleagues tell us he is a husband and father of four who lives in fairfield and also a former army reservist, shot yesterday morning by a driver during a traffic stop in alamo along 680. the chp is not giving much on the injuries he suffered during that shooting but certainly that is a very difficult time for fellow officers. >> you know, it is a time that we reflect. a time to remember that when we get up and brush our teeth that the job we have we may not be coming home. >> the chp is telling us youngstrum is a seven year veteran of the force and began his career working here in contra costa county. went up to vallejo for a short time and just came back here to work in this area last moment his neighbors in the cordelia area are planning a vigil to support his family. at the same time fellow officers we understand remain at the bedside of the wounded officer here at john mure medical center around the clock, live in walnut creek, alex savage, ktvu channel 2news. >> the investigation will focus on that. claudine wong live at the chp field office in martinez with more on the video that will be a key part of this investigation. >> reporter: yes, dave. the chp has confirmed there is dash cam video that shows at least part of what happened. that video is obviously going to be critical to the investigation as multiple agencies try to piece together what happened before, during and after this traffic stop along 680 yesterday morning. >> -- officer down. >> -- officer. >> he just said officer was down. i have been trying to call him. no response from the unit. >> unable to -- let them know i was in route -- shooting team and i will advice when i get there. >> new this morning you are listening to dispatch tapes as the call for help went out over police radio, what is unclear is what led up to that, we know it was because of that then. two officers one green jeep involved. we talked to witnesses, one who told us he had to cross several lanes to get it pulled over and moments after that that is when one witness who didn't want that, told us he heard the shots. >> then i started hearing some popping and then realizedit was gunfire. >> one of the officers contacted the driver. the driver then pulled out a gun and shot at that officer. >> a second officer on scene according to witnesses ran up to an embankment and fired down on the jeep, the driver later pronounced dead. this morning so many more questions, we don't know about that. if you look you can see, that most agree that is unusual and they are looking into why they did that. obviously the big glaring question this morning who is the driver of that jeep, what is that driver's background, what may have lid to that violence yesterday, that is what we are still trying to figure out, the chp has yet to release the driver's identity. claudine wong, ktvu channel happening right now firefighters in caloosa county trying to contain two big wildfires. they are burning east off clear lake. they started yesterday afternoon off highway 16 in the rumsy canyon area. it closed from the junction of state route 22 to 7 miles east of the caloosa county line. we have new video, just got this in of those fires overnight. those fires have burned 1200 acres. they are only 10% contained. there is a third fire. it is burning near route 27 in yellow county. that one we are told is 90% contained. firefighters also making progress on a wildfire, the one that is burning in the angeles national forest in southern california. this is in the san gabriel mountains, this mourning r morning it is 25% contained. seven firefighters suffered injuries fighting that blaze. a francisco police have arrested a man in connection with a killing of a hairstylist in the city's diamond heights neighborhood. police say witnesses helped identify him as the man who killed him. the two met at a bar in june and took a cake to his apartment. the next day he was found bound and gagged and several items missing from his home. he was arrested sunday and is being held on murder, 6:25. police need your help to find two suspects from an incident sunday night. it happened near the intersection there at 9:00. investigators say the suspects robbed two students. ucpd described them flight because their son has downs syndrome. they were booked to fly first class on a flight from new jersey to l.a. on sunday. the family says when today were ready to board they were told by an employee their son was a flight risk and could not board. the boy's mother videotaped the incident on her cell phone. >> -- this little boy had a seat in first class area and -- and for some reason they didn't want that, that was not acceptable. >> the airline responding saying the boy was agitated and running around the gate prioring to boarding but his parents claim he was sitting quietly and were told their son's behavior was a son because their seat was close to the cockpit and he could be a distraction for the pilot and later rebooked for find coach with another air airline and says shooting in canada has left one person dead. another critically wounded. it happened after a man shooting at a victory rally for the new premiere of "quebec." it happened last night in montreal. guards rushed the new premiere. she was not injured -- premere. only on 2, vallejo's interim police chief is explaining why his officers were justified using deadly force over the weekend. the new chief talked exclusively to ktvu e says he believes his officers had no choice early sunday morning when they opened fire on a white thunderbird killing 23- year-old mario romero. the chief told us a picture of the replica gun he was carrying. >> i have to stand by in their actions, to protect themselves when they were confronted by an individual who had a handgun in his waistband. >> the chief it was busy. one individual said he had to cross over lanes of traffic to get the jeep to pull over. >> i started to realize the popping i heard was gunfire. >> i looked to the right and i saw an officer on the right bleeding. i thought oh, my god. how horrible is that. >> i saw him shoot hig weapon, maybe three -- shoot his weapon, maybe tree or -- three or four times. >> reporter: we still don't know why he pulled a gun on the officer. certainly, multiple agencies looking into this trying to piece everything together. as they struggle and carefully watch the critical of this officer who temperature -- inland. you keep temperatures in the 50s and 60s. this is starting to light up here very early in the morning. some of these clouds are producing light rain. juice up the lower layers
