This building at 444 sixth street near the hall of justice in San Francisco, was identified as a future Wellness Center for drug users, a place to get users off the streets and closer to care and services. Its an attempt to solve the citys drug problems, but also a concern for people working at the Beauty Supply business next door. I think it would be bad for our business. She says Wellness Centers are important and can still help drug users, even if they dont offer a supervised consumption space. What we can do is we can fund all the other services that Wellness Centers provide counseling, Harm Reduction supplies, acupuncture, wound treatment, visits with doctors. As ronen says, dorseys district already has a Harm Reduction center nearby at sixth street and mission streets that is overwhelmed with demand for services. Are you ready for tonights Mega Millions drawing . Well tell you the record amount. That jackpot is expected to hit later today. And are you dealing with some summer aches and pains . Up next, we are joined live by our Fox Medical Team to explain why it may be your shoes sin pains this summer. You might be surprised to find out the problems could be caused by your feet. Fox medical teams dina sent joe fonzi joins us now to talk about our shoes. I know were outside more. Its summer and youre showing those flip flops and sandals. Thats part of the problem, right . I would like to defend my flip flop situation here. Me, too. I feel like this one does kind of have some good arch support. So this one, which is well worn, but either way, so you guys know, its we slip into them and we love them. Most of us flip flops. Maybe its a slide, maybe its a croc. Whatever it is. So i was talking to the chiropractor recently who was explaining how, you know, its all connected. And when youre not offering your feet enough support, that causes problems not just in your feet, but everywhere. Keep this in mind for every pound of body weight you have, thats 3 pounds of force on your feet. They are carrying a heavy load. If you wait 200 pounds, thats 600 pounds of force for every step. So chiropractor says flip flops. Theyre okay for, you know, running out here. And theyre not all day at the amusement park. Take a listen. You actually have three arches in your foot. You get a medial transverse and a lateral and a lot of people think, well, if i just get a, you know, a dr. Scholls insert and help the medial arch, im fixing everything. Its not the case. Everybodys foot is different. And a lot of times people actually have two different feet. So you need to take that into account because if ones different from the other changes, the angle of our legs here, it changes our weight distribution. And now that were pattern from gravity and walking and living is uneven and we can actually build injuries over time with that. So that is something to think about that its if youve got lower back pain, hip pain, it might come down to at least in part, your footwear and how well your arches are being supported. So also your posture is super important. Were so used to were hanging on to these all the time and were looking down that to, of course plays a role in it. So i asked him for a little walking lesson, which is as you would imagine, stand up straight. You want your arms at your side and your you know, youre doing your best to maintain a nice straight posture and keep everything in alignment. Boy, thats a really good point because like you said, especially if youre like you mentioned at one of the disneyland or youre on vacation and youre in a new area, you are youre looking down at your phone for the map or how to get somewhere. Youre not paying attention to that part of your your posture. Are there certain shoes that they recommend that the chiropractor recommends . Because i know there are flip flop. Im a big flip flop girl, but i will find some with with arch supports or maybe some inserts for those tennis shoes or those stylish shoes that maybe arent as supportive as well. And it is a good point that not all flip flops are created equal. There are some that you buy for 5 that are real, offering you nothing, just completely flat plastic. And then there are some that are more high end that do offer your foot a little more support. So the key is, is figuring out how to support your arches. Your arches are there to help you step and your arches play a huge role. Three arches as the chiropractor said. So your arches play a huge role, but you have to offer your arches some support and so that and that comes down to personal preference. These days with between sneakers and other shoes , you can kind of put them on and feel what feels right. And youll notice that your foot is feeling pretty good. What doesnt do with any good . The high heels that we ladies sometimes wear, thats a whole nother topic right there. Are they are doing better at making comfortable heels. Right. And a little bit more supportive and a good reminder, dina, as kids head back to school to make sure they have those supportive shoes as well, because theyre on their feet, many of them walking to school as well. And those those kids feet are growing and you buy them new shoes. And then a few months later, they need new shoes again. And, you know, you can cram into those, but they really cant. Yeah, youre exactly right. Making sure that theyre getting a proper fitting all right, dina font with our Fox Medical Team, thank you so much for all that good advice and reminders for us. Thank you. All right. 449 is the time. Theres a hospital in los angeles. It is one of five Health Care Systems nationwide that will soon offer the alzheimers drug la kimby. Theres a new hot political debate on capitol hill over the endangered species act, which became law 50 years ago. Supporters say its been tremendously successful in protecting endangered animals and plants since it was first enacted in 1973. And more than 99 of those listed as endangered or on the verge of extinction have survived. But some Republican Leaders say the costs and regulations tied to the endangered species act are out of control. It is absolutely possible to question the cost of the essay without questioning the need to protect species, even though some here will say otherwise. Cost does matter. Now the debate over funding the endangered species act is really heated up in recent years. Supporters say Climate Change has made it even more important than ever for 51 at the time, backer to Steve Paulson, not slightly cooler, significantly cooler today. Significantly cooler. Thats correct. Yes. Well see a big drop on the temps. Good. Ten, 15 degrees. So the cooler has arrived. Fog is making its push. The onshore wind for some has kicked up its heels, especially out towards the delta. I mean, you can see its coming right, right out of thethwest. Little dip in the jet stream up that fog bank and the onshore wind, travis, 25, gusting to 33mph. So thats a thats usually a sure sign along with also the lost campus has been up to 30mph onshore breeze oakland , Berkeley Hills. So everythings in place here 50 on the temps dont think these will change all that much. Are low 60s. We had 70s for temps yesterday not today. On the peninsula. Its 50s mid 50s on the coast and then upper 50s, mid 50s to a few 60s. San carlos 60, redwood city 62, but 57. Menlo park. Stanford campus. Atherton is 55 one even cooler than woodside. Dont see that all the time. Truckee 43. South lake tahoe 46. Mammoth lake. So says come catch me if you can. Im 37. How about that . Thats pretty impressive for august, the system that went by yesterday opened the door to the vaughn shore breeze. Therell be another system kind of working its way in. So a cooler pattern has arrived probably through friday. Then theres some huge disagreements on the weekend. Arent there always fog returns cooler to breezy and windy. The heat is over for now, at least for a 3 to 4 days. Drizzle will be with us. We have some this morning. Nights and mornings. , Half Moon Bay, santa cruz mountains, oakland, Berkeley Hills and parts of marin county from mount tam. I would expect a couple one hundredths, maybe 0. 04 or 5 here next 36 48 hours. Big fog bank returns, drizzle breezy to windy sunny but cooler for all today 50s 60s, 70s and 80s out of those 90s and they wont come back any time soon at least not until probably later in the weekend. If it materializes. Thank you, steve. The future of sports at cal and stanford hangs in the balance. Coming up, the meeting today that could determine the fate of the Athletic Departments. Thieves running through oakland , Convenience Stores, Surveillance Video capturing it all. Well tell you why the owners of one 7eleven, one store believe the same group of criminals is committing several other crimes in more than 20 people in redwood city became sick. Theyre being treated following a chemical leak. Well tell you what we know this morning about the cause. From ktvu fox two news this is morning on two. Good morning. Thank you for joining us here on mornings on two. Im pam cook. It is tuesday august 8th. If you have if youve been feeling its a little too warm for you. Good news from Steve Paulson. Definitely cooler. Its about time, right, pamela . Yes, it is. You can open the windows. We have an onshore wind. A bigger fog bank is in place at and its probably going to thicken up, i would think, by the time we get to about seven, 8 00, 50 on the temps out of those upper 6070s, a couple of systems taking aim at the pacific northwest, actually pretty impressive for them up there this time of year. But for us, it equals more in the way of low clouds, onshore wind for some and means cooler temps. We were above yesterday for everyone. Today we go below 6070s, mainly low 80s. All right. So glacier made it through the first hour. Still good or something new. Show up. Its still pretty good out there. I dont know. I dont see a lot going on. There are a couple of slowdowns, but for the most part, if youre going to be driving, lets say, to the bay bridge, i think youre going to like what you see here. You can see traffic on the bay bridge toll plaza looks pretty good with no major issues. We also do have a look at interstate 880. Thats doing very well right now. And 580 some slowing, of course, on the Altamont Pass. That is not unusual, but it looks good from livermore to dublin and into castro valley. 501. Lets get back to the headlines. All right, sal, thank you. Well, happening today, a new development about the teams that are leaving College Footballs pac 12 conference, stanford and cal are now considering joining a new conference that would require them to travel to the east coast. James torres already on the uc berkeley campus. Now, as the board of regents gets ready for a special closed door meeting. Good morning, james. Dave good morning to you. Well, an agenda for that meeting simply says that officials for the university of california system will be talking about its pac 12 membership. Its a closed door meeting, so we may not actually know right away what these officials are thinking. We have heard from many major sports outlets that the cal and stanford programs are exploring memberships in the Atlantic Coast conference, simply known as the acc. Joining schools like florida state, North Carolina and other universities in the states of georgia, South Carolina and virginia. All of this coming after several pac 12 schools evacuate to other conferences, enticed by major media rights deals. The major bay area universities are two of the remaining four schools in the pac 12. We heard from the golden bears head coach, head football coach, rather, over the weekend who says he doesnt know whats next, but hes working to keep student athletes focused. The Decision Makers that are involved in these calls are working on it, but what we can control right now is the is the what happens on the practice field and meetings and again, the answers that everybody is looking for, us included, we dont have those yet. I dont have those yet. We saw a joint statement from Stanford Universitys president and athletic director. It reads in part, our primary focus at this time is analyzing the available options and making the best decisions for stanford and our student athletes. Calls to athletic directors and League President s that have gone out. Yesterday we expect more to happen today. From what we understand, all of these conversations happening right now are all in the preliminary phase. Essentially everyone is just thinking about what this possibility will look like, that u. S. Board of regents meeting is expected to start at seven this morning. Were live this morning from the uc berkeley campus. Im james torres, ktvu fox two news. Thank you, james. The owners of 7eleven stores in oakland say they are being hit by thieves repeatedly and they are asking for help. Surveillance video shows thieves breaking into the 7eleven on harrison in downtown oakland at about 4 00 yesterday morning. They stole cigarets and tried to remove a safe, but it was bolted down. The owners say in the last week there have been six robberies or burglaries at 7eleven stores in oakland. Tired of this . Like were here to do a business. Were here to serve the community. Were here to work, serve and feed our families. Now, the store in macarthur was robbed twice this month. Several store owners say they believe its the same group of people hitting different stores, stealing all the cigaret and tobacco product. The do everything. The store owners are demanding. City leaders take a strong stance against crime to help small businesses. Police have not yet said if there theyve made any arrests in the cases. San Francisco Police are searching for a suspect in a stabbing that happened near montgomery and market streets yesterday afternoon just before 4 00. Now when police arrived, they found a man who had been stabbed. He was taken to the hospital with what Police Describe as life threatening injuries. No word on his condition this morning. Time now, 505 san jose Police Still Searching for at least one suspect in connection with the double homicide last week during a Police Welfare check on friday at an Apartment Building on park moore avenue. They found the bodies of a great grandmother and her great grandchild. Both had been stabbed to death. The killing shocked people in san joses buena park neighborhood. Anytime our community, especially in the city of san jose, were a very small city. When it comes down to knowing when another have to experience this type of loss, it can be traumatic, it can be painful. So far, theres no word of a motive. And the two victims have not been identified. Emergency responders in redwood city say at least 21 people got sick after a chemical leak at an office complex. Now, a hazmat team was called to the scene shortly after noon yesterday near the marine parkway in redwood shores. Investigators traced it to a freon leak at a faulty air conditioner inside a building housing a biomedical firm. This is a little unusual. Its not its not unseen. Theres mechanical failures on commercial buildings pretty frequently that will put an odor into a building. Most time it doesnt cause a symptom. And thats really what necessitated the hazmat response. Firefighters say the workers complained of nausea and dizziness. They were all treated at the scene and no one needed to be taken to the hospital. Our time now, 506 state public utility commissioners still trying to decide if selfdriving taxi service should be allowed to expand in San Francisco, cab drivers are worried about losing their livelihood and they held a rally yesterday outside of the puc meeting. Inside that hearing, executives from waymo and cruise said the tests so far have pointed out some problems that theyre working on. But Public SafetyOfficials Say there are still too many incidents where the selfdriving cars have interfered, with emergency crews trying to get to a fire or some other emergency things. I understand and appreciate the safety that Autonomous Vehicles can bring to the table in terms of no drunk drivers, no speeding, all of that kind of stuff. However, they are still not ready for prime time because of how they have impacted our operating lines. Where theres an issue and the interaction does not go as well as it could. We were quickly with feedback from First Responders to implement improvements. Now this coming thursday, the Public Utilities commission will hear another round of testimony about whether to allow more selfdriving cars in San Francisco, thousands of San Jose City workers plan to go on a three day strike next week. The two unions representing more than 4500 City Employees, announced yesterday that workers voted overwhelmingly to authorize the three day walkout. Librarians emergency dispatchers, Animal Shelter workers, airport staff and other city workers all plan to walk off the job on wednesday in an ongoing labor dispute from a mayor and an administration constantly preaching back to basics approach. We believe going on strike and not investing in the employees and the city of san jose is not the best path forward to make sure that our city can thrive. The City Employees have been working without a contract since the end of june. They are demanding better pay and benefits along with increased staffing. But san joses mayor says meeting those demands would mean the city would have to make cuts in other areas. Im not going to sugarcoat it for our residents, a strike would certainly have an impact on the availability of certain City Services, but well be able to manage essential services and continue delivering most of those to our residents. San joses last major strike, major strike was back in 1981. It involved about 2000 city workers. That walkout received National Attention over the issue of equal pay for women. More than 11,000 city workers in los angeles walked off the job early this morning. The 24 hour strike there involves employees for the citys sanitation department, traffic officers, lifeguards and thousands of other city workers. The picket lines went up before dawn outside Los Angeles City hall and other locations. City leaders say the strike will affect trash pickup access to public swimming pools and possibly some other City Services today. And the ongoing Writers Strike is starting to have an impact even beyond scripted television shows. For the first time, jeopardy is going to be reusing questions from previous seasons. The shows writers are on strike. The series showrunner also says former players from previous seasons will be appearing since it wouldnt be, quote, fair to have new contestants with old questions. That seems the opposite. Youd think, well, these older contestants already heard those questions. Maybe new. I dont know. I dont know. But steve, as you said, maybe we have a chance now of getting them. I feel pretty good going forward. Yeah. If they remember the questions. Yeah all right. The question is, will it be cooler . The answer is yes, because we have temperatures which were about 80 degrees in the Higher Elevations yesterday, have tumbled 54 to 63 and 68. Thats down 16 for Ben Lomond Mountain, berkeley lab was 72 at this time. Now thes 89 and 68. P. Bodega bay and point raised cold point arena cold. Thats cold water. San francisco boys come up from 54 to 56. Same for monterey boys. 5556, but still near average to below. Bodega bay in point rays are both below cooler has arrived in a big way. I mean you can feel the breeze yesterday it just didnt have a lot of freon with it, if you will. But it does now. The fog is also making a pretty good march here. So santa rosa, walnut creek, redwood city, san jose, the arrows are all down. 90. Yesterday was hot and the 70s 80s. Today probably staying there for the next couple of days with little change all the way through friday. Onshore wind in place thats a thats an onshore breeze no doubt about it. As you can see out, the travis gusting the 30mph. And the west southwest breeze, even in the oakland, Berkeley Hills, 50 and 60s now, not the 70s on the temps that we had yesterday , 53 poplar morgan hills in their san Martin Hollister aptos, socal santa cruz, felton, boulder creek, all at 53 and then 58 for santa clara, san Jose Campbell and saratoga. Cupertino says ill be the odd one out. Were 5945 bookends trucking South Lake Tahoe. Mammoth lakes you go mom. 38 coal degrees. Renos 54 degrees. A couple of systems moved into the pacific northwest. That was pretty impressive for august. The system like that kicking in, but cooler pattern kicks in. The high wants to build in probably not until sunday. Theres a big differences on the extended outlook as we head towards sunday. So ill ease into it. But fog returns cool, blustery, windy and drizzle. Mister drizzle is in town for a few days. Some measurable amounts look likely. I would think next about 36 to 48 hours here. So if you were waiting for the cool it is here open those windows big fog bank returns drizzle, breezy, windy, sunny but cooler for all today as we settle in now with 50, 6070s and 80s and i dont see really any change until maybe the weekend you guys. All right thank you steve. A mother has filed a lawsuit against southwest airlines. John burris sent a letter to the Us Department of justice asking it to look into allegations of civil Rights Violations among Antioch Police officers. Most of the allegations are tied to the racist and homophobic text messages. The department out of control. Theres no accountability here. And the people who are supposed to control the officers, the sergeants and lieutenants and the captains held they participated. Now, the texting scandal involves at least 45 of antioch, 100 Police Officers. The Antioch PoliceOfficers Association says the entire police force is being unfairly targeted. And its really unfair to smear the very fine officers of this department with the bad statements, conduct and actions of a few. However, burris and other civil rights attorneys are calling for a tough response to the police texting scandal. They are even suggesting the Us Department of justice take over the Antioch Police department. The judge in Donald Trumps election interference case wants to hold a hearing this week over what trump can say about the case. Now. Now hes designating almost a million acres of land around the grand canyon as a new National Monument, an effort by the white house to limit Mining Operations in that area. All right. 519 is the time. Back over to Steve Paulson for a look at our forecast. Just cooler and it looks like youre keeping i dont have to say extreme heat, then a typhoon that i dont have to say thank you. I imagine that. Thank goodness. Boy, i mean, ive never had to do Something Like that. But we have cooler weather, thats for sure. And the onshore wind has kicked in for many. And the low cloud deck has also made a pretty good push. Gusts to 30 due west to travis. Usually its west southwest, but thats a due west, 50, 60 on the temps here up in the mountains, 45, truckee, south, lake tahoe, mammoth, 37 degrees. Thats cold for august, no doubt about it. One system went by, another ones on the way. Its a cooler pattern here. The high tries to build in, but not yet. Maybe by the weekend. But fog returns cooler, blustery, windy. The heat is over for now. It was hot yesterday. Lots of 90s. Drizzle is back coast and bay mainly around San Francisco, oakland, north and theres not as much fog to the south yet but its drying. That doesnt mean people havent won since april 18th. They just havent won the jackpot. There have been other winnings, 31 other drawings, and people have won other amounts, anywhere from 2 to 5 million still a significant amount of money, but kind of pales in comparison to 1. 5 billion. Santa rosa, walnut creek, redwood city, san jose. The arrows are all down from the 90 yesterday, 92 to 98 at 78 to 82, 78 and 80. On the forecast. Well, during the past few months, theres been a lot of talk, a lot of discussions about Artificial Intelligence, whether you love the new technology or not, people are talking about how its going to change the world and programs like chat, gpt are already used around the world, and there are efforts to regulate them. But Management Experts say ai is the start of a technical revolution like the one that started hundreds of years ago. The biggest leap was the industrial revolution, the coming of the factory, moving people from agriculture to cities. And i think that were not going to have light commutes during the week anymore, as we did some days in summer, although yesterday it was pretty light after eight. So well see how we four is slow there still a 20 minute drive from the car drive or bridge to the macarthur maze and theres a light delay at the toll plaza. So this is where im optimistic. Its off to a good start here as you drive across oops, bay bridge, a little glitch there, but traffic looks pretty good. Heres a man who never glitches. Hes always on time and doing well. Mr. Steve paulson, thank you, sir. Appreciate that. Well, im heading up to the mountains. Its nice up there, right . Yes. Its also cold. 39, truckee, 38, mammoth. Heat is over for now. Drizzle is back as well. And a lot of low clouds in place. More to the north and to the south. So there are some breaks in it, but the cooler air has arrived, not only aloft, but also at the surface. So 50, 60 over by the coast. So 70s now and 80s inland. I think well have a rather refreshing breeze here. Temperatures which were way above yesterday across the board coast bay inland are now below to near average, but most are below here. And san jose are closed. Low clouds are making a pretty good surge here. Its hard to see until the visible satellite comes in, but theres a lot of gray on the coast and the onshore wind for some are a breeze for others has developed. So bigger fog bank sunny breezy to windy cooler for all today temperatures which were well above yesterday for even San Francisco out to inland areas all coming down below now is 6070 and 80s. We heard from the golden bears head football coach over the weekend who calls the seemingly fall of the conference sad. I grew up around the pac ten pac 12 conference and watching it and being fortunate to be a part of it, coached in it for a long time. Its really sad. You know , from what i know, it probably didnt need to come to this, but , you know, things happened along the way and really unfortunate, really unfortunate. We also saw a joint statement from stanfords president and athletic director. It reads in part, our primary focus at this time is analyzing the available options and making the best decisions for stanford and our student athletes. Silicon valley commute looks pretty good. 610. Lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. As the school year gets underway, many bay area districts are still dealing with staffing shortages. Well tell you why so many teachers have been leaving the industry. Plus, every week. So sometimes they store, sometimes the other store. In oakland, Convenience Store owners are really frustrated after several robberies that they think were all committed by the same people. The reason they say nothings being done to help them introduce an all new way to watch ktvu news live on your big screen search fox local on your tv streaming device and download it for free access all fox two newscast plus exclusive features like the ktvu video vault archives search fox local on your tv streaming device or scan the code for how to stream ktvu news. Ktvu. Andre is here now to explain how the store owners are last week or so, there have been six robberies or burglaries at thieves breaking into the 7eleven on oakland at about 4 00 yesterday morning. They stole cigarets and tried to remove a safe, but it was bolted down last thursday, six people arrived in three cars at a store on 23rd avenue. One person rammed a car into the front window and door of the store and stole items, then took off. Tired of this . Like were here to do a business. Were here to serve the community. Were here to work, to serve and feed our families. Seven store owners say they believe its the same group of people hitting the different stores. They wear face coverings and work in groups of 4 to 6, carrying garbage bags, stealing all the cigaret and tobacco product. The jewel, everything. So this manager says he was robbed while working at the store on international boulevard just before eight last wednesday night. I am so scaredi dont feel like back to work. Bi have to just to feed my family. The store owners are demanding city leaders take a strong stance again, crime to help small businesses. Police have not yet said if there are any arrests in any of these cases. Well keep you posted. Pam okay. Thank you, andre. Emergency responders in redwood city say at least 21 people got sick after a chemical leak at an office complex. A hazmat team was called to the scene shortly after noon yesterday near the marine parkway in redwood shores. Investigators traced it to an air conditioner inside a building housing a biomedical firm. This is a little unusual. Its not its not unseen. Theres mechanical failures on commercial buildings pretty frequently that will put an odor into a building. Most time it doesnt cause a symptom. And thats really what necessitated the hazmat response firefight. Workers say the workers complained of nausea and dizziness. They were all treated at the scene and no one needed to be taken to the hospital. Time now. Six, 16 schools all over the country are welcoming students back to classrooms. But what most Public School districts really need are more teachers. Oakland schools started classes yesterday, but about 60 more teachers are needed, almost the same number needed at the beginning of the last school year. And San Francisco will start the year with 140 teacher vacancies, more than even last year. Educators around the country say there are several reasons for the continuing shortages of teachers. The reasons that im hearing low pay, im also hearing that the lack of respect for our profession, as well as burnout educator i spoke well, talked about other Job Opportunities with competitive salaries as well as work from home opportunities. Now around the country, urban School Districts keeping teachers and school and districts in the suburbs. So some School Districts are creating new incentives for teachers to stay, including lower cost housing near the schools. For teachers who stay in the district, a certain number of years, nasa scientists are now helping spot infected grapevines in californias Central Valley long before they are visible to the naked eye. The space agency is sending specially equipped Research Planes over 11,000 acres of vineyards in lodi. The high tech equipment can detect root writing bacteria and viruses. Crop infections cost the us wine and grape industry 3 billion a year. Wow. Heres another wow. At 618, were going back to south. Theres a major problem at the san mateo bridge. Whats happening . So yeah, the san mateo bridge has this problem on 92 westbound coming out to the bottom of the high rise. Basically its backed up around the incline and then over the top down to the foster city side. And we have a lot of slow traffic now at quite it hasnt quite reached the toll plaza yet. And i hope it doesnt, but it probably will unless they clear the crash soon. In the last few minutes ive watched that backup creep up and pretty soon it should be all the way back here. But even if its not , you wouldnt want to get onto a bridge where halfway through youre going to be stuck in slow traffic. And i think im beginning to watch this backup up here right in front of my eyes here. Look right there. See, thats where the brake lights are beginning. And thats where the world of hurt, as i like to use as an official traffic term begins. All right. Bay bridge has become a little bit more crowded. It was probably going to anyway, but its becoming more crowded this morning. If youre in the east bay. Well, if you want to go down to the dumbarton bridge, it looks pretty good. 880 looks fine and no problems in that Silicon Valley at 619. Lets bring steve back in to talk about todays weather. Maybe somebody who just tuned in, wheres the act . Wheres it on san mateo crash on the san mateo bridge. Its closer to foster city, but they dont think its going to clear anytime soon. Theres the rub. Okay. Thank you, sir. Thank you. It was hot yesterday and temperatures rocketed up again. Doesnt take much. Livermore 99 concord 98. Santa rosa was 94 kentville in san jose at 93. Palo alto 92. Oakland was 80. In the city even hits 77, which is one of the warmest temps theyve had if not the warmest all summer. Ill have to look it up, but mount veeder is 67 at this time. Yesterday they were 80. Thats a big drop. Berkeley lab has gone from 72 to 54 and 95 humidity. A west wind instead of a north wind. Thats a big change there. And Ben Lomond Mountain was 79. Theyre now 61 with a south wind. So a big change is here today at the surface and aloft, water temps are still cold, 5051, 51. Those are below average. San francisco, though, did go up from 54 to 56. Monterey boys hanging in there at mid and theres warm water south. Theres warm water west, but theres not here. So thats something to keep an eye on. But the cooler has arrived and its going to be wet. Its probably the rest of the week, at least through friday, maybe some hints of a warm up. But theres big differences in the forecast models for the weekend, so well deal with it later in the week. Santa rosa, walnut creek, redwood city, san jose, just down we go, 78, 82, 78 and 80 on steves forecast. Highs i do my own. Its not easy, but i do my home surface. Wind is west of southwest. It is onshore through the Golden Gate Bridge over san pablo bay, over the strait and right out to the delta. And theres some pretty good gusts maybe on some of the bridges also out towards travis, 25 to bits there. But its been up to 33mph, 50 and 60 instead of 70s. Brentwood was 75, 76 at this time yesterday. Thats a big drop. Livermore was around 66, 67. So much cooler pattern. In fact, we are running cooler concords minus six, livermore minus five, san jose minus six compared to yesterday at this time. Sfo san carlos and hayward all in there as well. 40 truckee briefly dropped to 39 and now theyre 45. South lake tahoe 43 mammoth dropped to 37. Now 40. So for about an hour getting some 30s in august i dont know. Thats a little cold, but its you know doesnt last long. But still they make it to the 30s cooler pattern the high wants to build back in but the brakes are on right now. The air brakes if you will, because the system has been moving into the north, knocks it out of the picture. So the heat is over for now. But the drizzle is not. Thats been with us a little bit this morning. I think theres more on the way. San francisco, Half Moon Bay, santa cruz mountains, oakland, Berkeley Hills look to be the usual suspects there. 5060s anywhere near the water 70s and now 80s inland down a good 15 degrees for some cooler for all and temperatures look like theyll settle in here with only a few changes until maybe the weekend when it does there are some signs will warm up. Remains to be seen, though. How much all right. Thank you, steve. It is what the riders are concerned about as they continue their strike. Artificial intelligence coming up, new details about a studios plan to use the tech nology and some bay area residents are heading to the world cup in australia, even though the us is no longer in the tournament. Were going to hear from one who plan that trip a while ago tremendously successful in protecting endangered animals and plants since it was first enacted in 1973. More than 99 of those listed as endangered or on the verge of extinction have survived. But some republicans say the cost and regulations tied to the endangered species act are out of control. Some bay area soccer fans are heading to the womens world cup today. They intentionally bought tickets for the later rounds expecting to watch the us. But the us was eliminated sunday when they lost to sweden. We spoke to one person traveling to new zealand and australia who was hoping to watch the us. Im still thinking its going to be really great. Soccer to get to see the level of competition this year. It feels like its elevated so much, so itd be really cool to get to see semifinals and the final matches. She and her dad leave today. They say going to the womens world cup has always been on their bucket list. Whats in a name . Well tell you why. Oakland International Airport is considering changing its name and why they hope it could help business. And a call for federal authorities to look into a bay area Police Department surrounds it in controversy. What the police union is saying about the demands affordable design. Endless possibilities. Ikea. Why one leader is criticizing her colleague, accusing him of backtracking and do you feel lucky this Tuesday Morning will tell you how much money is up for grabs in tonights Mega Millions drawing expected to set a record. And well tell you what your chance of winning are from ktvu fox two news. This is mornings on to all right as we take you live to the New York Stock Exchange for that opening bell this morning. The dow is headed in the opposite direction this morning after moodys downgraded several small and midsized banks. And beyond meat reports a drop in sales as more plant based options appear in the Grocery Stores and on the menus. Talk about that. The other stocks to watch. But it looks like about a 200 point drop for the dow just about the opposite of yesterday. Thank you for joining us here on morning sun two. Im pam cook. Hey, good morning. Im dave clark. Tuesday morning august eighth, Steve Paulsons right here talking about the cooler temperatures. Much cooler, thats for sure. Here at to the north, but its beginning to fill in a li bit to the south. Its the onshore breeze in place, 50 on theperatures will drop off a good ten, 15 degrees for many fog and low clouds. Tough to see the visible satellite coming in in the next half hour. 45 minutes. But theres a lot of gray out there. And thats leading to not only a breakdown of the High Pressure system, but cooler weather for all here. Big fog bank returns, drizzle, blustery, windy for some, been up to 33 miles an hour. Some of the Higher Elevations also out at travis. So the onshore wind in place for some 60s 60s and 70s and 80s on the temps all right sounds here its all about the san mateo bridge on the foster city side. It is. And we still have that. This is why they issued alerts, because we havent seen a lot of progress on this westbound 92 slow all the way across the bridge almost because of a crash. Its blocking two lanes and has been for the last half hour. Westbound 92. So we are getting by in one lane and just under just as i predicted, the backup has reached the san mateo bridge toll plaza. Look at that. So at least now you dont have any question of whether you should take that bridge. I wouldnt. I wouldnt do that. Maybe you can go up to the bay bridge. Thats pretty crowded. Dumbarton bridge is a little better, but pretty soon that will be busy as well. So when the one major bridge goes downtd thats whats happening. 632 lets go back to the desk. All right. Thank you. Well, happening today, the big drawing for whats expected to be the largest Mega MillionsLottery Jackpot in history. That jackpot grew to 1. 5 billion. And ali rasmus is in san carlos with the latest on that jackpot. Thatll choke you up. Yeah, 1. 5 billion, that number. So big that the Convenience Store is digital boards like this one here in san carlos, it doesnt even fit it goes up to 999 million. But were at the 76 station here in san carlos where we talked to a couple of people who said they already got their Mega Millions tickets. They acknowledge, though, that the odds are not in your favor, your chances of winning the are 1 in 302,000,000. And thats if you match all six numbers correctly. However, that hasnt stopped people from trying their luck. A number that big. Its like it doesnt . And so you try to play when its that chance. You dont play , you cant win. Now, no ones won the Mega Millions jackpot since april 18th. So thats why that pot of money has ballooned so big. There have been other drawings since then about 31 drawings since then. And some people have won smaller prizes. If you match five of the six winning numbers, you can win 1 million match four, you get 10,000. And while that, of course, is not the same as one and a half dollars million, its also not nothing. I think most people would take ten grand for playing the lotto here and there, but the drawing tonight is at 8 00. Live in san carlos, ali rasmus, ktvu fox two news. All right thank you, ali. Two San Francisco supervisor are now on opposite sides of a plan to help get drug users off the streets. There was a push to open whats called a Wellness Center near the hall of justice supervisor matt dorsey represents that neighborhood and originally supported the idea. But he says a lot has changed since the original proposal. He says at first, six sites in six neighborhoods were going to have wellness hubs. That was narrowed to three. And now theres just one. The original plan called for supervised drug use, but the City Attorney said that would violate federal law. Now, dorsey has changed his mind. When i signed up for this, the idea was that wellness hub was going to be a safe consumption site. Now, dorsey wants the money diverted to help incarcerated drug users through Jail Health Services supervisor Hillary Ronen says the change is a political ploy. She says the Wellness Center can still help drug users even if they dont have space for supervised drug use. What we can do is we can fund all the other services that Wellness Centers provide counseling, Harm Reduction supplies, acupuncture , wound treatment, visits with doctor. Now, ronan points out that there is already a Harm Reduction center in dorseys district, where 150 people, a day were using the services she says now more than 500 people a day are asking for help. Our time now, 635 prominent civil rights Attorney John Burris is leading the latest call for a fe department. Burris sent a letter to the department of justice asking it to investigate allegations of civil Rights Violations among Antioch Police officers. Many of the allegations are tied to racist and homophobic text messages. The department out of control. Theres no accountability here. And the people who are supposed to control the officers, the sergeants and lieutenants and the captains held, they participate. And now the texting scandal involves at least 45 of antiochs 100 Police Officers. The Antioch PoliceOfficers Association says the entire police force is being targeted unfairly. And its really unfair to smear the very fine officers of this department with the bad statements, conduct and actions of a few. However, john burris and other civil rights attorneys are calling for a tough response to the police texting scandal. Theyre even suggesting the Us Department of justice take over the Antioch Police department. Vallejo police are holding a Community Town hall today to discuss a proposed plan that would end Police Response to alarms. The Police Department says it only has 43 officers and supervisors available for patrol for the entire city. Fall alarms are taking up as much as 115 hours of time every month in 2022, 98 of calls were false alarms. Vallejo recently passed a local emergency over the citys Police Shortage. The department is taking public input on the proposal. At the meeting at city hall tonight. All right, pam. Time 637, right back to sal and those major problem on the san mateo bridge. Yeah, you know, right now im looking at the commute here and i am not seeing anything. Any movement on, you know, im just sometimes i wonder why why its taken so long and this good reason, usually this is the bay bridge. It is backed up here. But the san mateo bridge is very slow because of that crash. And on the dispatch computer here, it looks like theyre still waiting for a tow truck, a medium duty tow truck for a small trailer. This is the thing. This is why they issued the sig alert. You cant just pick up and drive these vehicles because one of them is a big truck. Let me show you it to you on the map here. You can see the san mateo bridge traffic is backed up all the way. Dumbarton bridge, though, doesnt look all that slow. But people look at this, people getting down from hayward coming down this way and then theyre going to go that way. All right. So give yourself plenty of time to get across the bay because of that problem on the san mateo bridge. And again, what they just said was theyre waiting for a special kind of tow truck to clear that wreck. And its going to be a well, this is why they issued a sig alert at about 606. Here it is half an hour later. Lets go to steve now. Is it my turn already . Sal i think well, i see some weather there on your screen. So maybe. I think so. See, sal, sometimes im like you when youre looking at your phone. Im looking. Im like, oh, its my turn, right . Who does that . Well, just a rumor. Its only a rumor. We do have a pretty good wind out of the west southwest. Last ramp. This mount diablo, they were all east or northeast yesterday. So the onshore breeze in place also on the oakland, berkeley. I dont think my computer said to be honest with you, its going to be cooler today. Well have 50, 60 over by the coast 70s and also 80s on the bigger fog bank in place onshore breeze in place. This pattern will be with us through the end of the week. You guys may be a little warmer by the weekend. All right, steve, we got it. And time is 639. The coldest place on earth now suffering because of Climate Change. We tell you how antarctica is really being affected by the warming weather. All right. Lets head to our newsroom now. Check in with Claudine Wong for the look at the other stories were following for you. Good morning. Good morning, pam. Good morning to you, dave. Well, its that viral video that led to public outrage against the san jose police. San jose fire department. A year later, we are finally getting some information about why that fire truck drove to that strip club and gave a ride to one of the dancers. Plus the bay wheels program. Its expanding within San Francisco and the bike share is now operating inside one of the citys most popular landmarks. And thats just in time for this weekends outside lanes Music Festival. Well have that more coming up sent out a survey to residents last week asking for their thoughts. The idea is to have a name that will attract more flight destinations and visitors from outside california to oakland and not just San Francisco, but the port told ktvu it does not intend to remove oakland from the name. They say the idea is in the research stages. Our time is now. 643. Renters in pittsburgh , one city leaders to pass tougher rent control ordinances and many of them spoke out at last nights city Council Meeting, calling for a 3 cap on annual rent hikes. The alliance for californias for Community Empowerment action is leading that effort. They say some people have seen their rent go up several times a year. If we dont want Homeless People and we dont want people constantly evicted because thats whats happening. I mean, i could be evicted because i have issues paying my rent. I think its going to come to a point where there need to be a cap on the rent here. This is very ridiculous. Also last night, rent control advocates spoke at San Pablo CityCouncil Meeting. Overall, theyre pushing for tougher rent control measures all over contra costa county. Our time now 645 Scientists Say even antarctica is seeing the effects of Climate Change caused by humans. Now the sea ice in antarctica is at a record low in the ice shelves. That can be the size of several big buildings. Theyre also under threat as their melting and eventually collapse. Ice Scientists Say that sea ice and ice shelf shelves, they work like a cork on a bottle holding back glaciers that would otherwise rush into the ocean. And when they disappear, glaciers flow many times faster. Changes that weve seen in recent years. Like im im worried by them. You know, im a you know its surprising even to me as a glaciologist thats familiar with, you know, the detail of whats happening and how rapidly our polar regions are changing and the consequences of melting glaciers is the sea level rises. Scientists say every country that has a coast will be affected steph curry has perford often at chase center, but not like this. One, two. I want to play. There he is on stage. Nobody man, not dead. I know he was the surprise guest last night of the rock band paramour. He sang the groups 2007 hit misery business. As paramour told the crowd theyve known curry for years. They said it was no longer a paramour show. Its now the steph curry show. There you go. Hows everything is when that man steps at the golf course. You know, hes just hes a man. Hes incredible. Sounds a man to hes watching our commute and whats backing up and was caused by that crash on the san mateo bridge. Yeah unfortunately that san mateo bridge is not the man. No man or anything. Its actually all joking aside, its not very pleasant commute. Lets go right to it. Westbound 92. As you drive out toward the high rise, there was a crash with a big rig there waiting for a tow truck now and theyve been waiting since about 6 00. Here we are almost seven and look at this traffic. Its barely moving. Heading out. I would not use the san mateo bridge. I would use the bay bridge. Maybe or the dumbarton bridge. Bay bridge is backed up. This is looking sort of like a typical backup. If you are driving on the dumbarton bridge, it looks okay. South bay commute is nice. Its not affected by any of that bridge stuff. It looks pretty good into that west valley at 648. What about todays weather . Heres steve south. Thank you, sir. Itll be cooler today after a warm to hot. Thats for sure. Monday here and it didnt take long to get into the 90s again yesterday. Livermore concord pushing upper 90s. Santa rosa was 94. Canfield and san jose 93. Palo alto was 92. Oakland downtown hit 80in San Francisco. Thats one of the hottest temperatures theyve had in a while. Its 77. Not today. Temperatures are on their way down. Santa rosa, walnut creek, redwood city, san jose, 78, 82, 78 and 80 on the forecast times cooler has arrived in a big way. Now the low clouds are more extensive. North not so much to the south. Theres more patchy south, but the onshore breeze, you can see that coming right through the golden gate out to the delta. Also the cooler air aloft, temperatures aloft have dropped a good 15, almost 20 degrees. Travis was up to 33. Now theyre only 25. But thats the onshore breeze. I mean, brentwood was 77, 78 at this time yesterday. Theyre 61, a lot of 70s yesterday. Now 50s and 60s on the temps. And we are running cooler. San jose minus six, minus six sfo compared to yesterday at this time. Same for concord, livermore, san carlos minus five. So most locations already running cooler truckies back down to 37. South lake tahoe at 43. Mammoth did hit 37. Now theyre 40. Thats cold for august. Cold mornings. I mean, the days will be nice, but the mornings are getting a little cold here. A couple of systems took aim at the pacific northwest. One has moved into the intermountain region. Another one is on its way. So a cooler pattern. The high wants to build in maybe by the weekend. Big differences on the forecast models here for the weekend, but fog returns cooler breezy to windy here. The heat is over for now and drizzle has come back in a big way because the fog is back as well. So a couple one hundredths to maybe some locations like tilden park and San Bruno Mountain and some of the coastal hills can get more than that 5060s coast and bay 70s and now 80s inland. I dont think there will be too much change until maybe the weekend. Are some signs that saturday be warmer . Remains to be seen. How much on sunday. But for the next few days, temperatures sliding from above average yesterday to below today and theyll stay there probably the rest of the weekday. All right, steve, thank you. Time is 650.
