Results Tallahassee, Fla.   –  The Florida State cross country teams competed in the sole home meet of the season on Friday at the Apalachee Regional Park. Racing in ideal conditions, the Noles certainly excelled on their home course as nine scoring runners logged personal best collegiate times. The men took second place, scoring 87 points in the 8K, led by redshirt junior Matthew Newland in seventh place. His time of 24:34.9 was a personal best along with Anderson Ball (24:46.7), Coleman Cronk (24:58.6), and Wynne Thomas (25:04.1). Ball finished next in 14th followed by Colby Otero in 18th, Cronk in 21st, Thomas in 27th, and Matthew Owens in 59th (25:42.4). “I was really pleased with the guys,” said head coach Bob Braman said.  “Several of these guys have a chance to be on our ACC team, so we looked at this race as a hard effort and we trained through it and ran hard. Most of the guys ran personal bests on tired legs. Our depth is even better than we thought it would be.” Dani Thompson spearheaded the women to a fourth-place finish in the 5K with her personal-best time of 17:56.0, landing her at 14th place among the field. Abby Schrobilgen (18:25.6), Haley McCloskey (19:13.4), Paola Bencosme (19:25.5), and Sarah Magee (20:27.7) also recorded personal records. Junior transfer Anna Sentner (18:12.8) continued her positive start to the season for the Noles with a 22nd-place finish. Freshman Jane Eiselstein (18:20.30) finished not far behind in 27th followed by Schrobilgen in 34th (18:25.6) and Annika Pfaff in 68th (18:54.5) to round out the scoring. “It was so great to be on our home course,” explained women’s distance coach Baylee Mires. “We had multiple ladies run 20 to 30 seconds better than they’ve ever run. It’s a great step in the right direction for the squad. Dani Thompson broke 18 (minutes) for the first time, ever, so that was a big win. It’s just fun to be able to come out and perform on a course where we train all the time.” Florida State will split between the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and the Nuttycombe Invite in Madison, Wisconsin on Friday, October 14.
