The Australian Ambassador to Greece, His Excellency, Arthur Spyrou, is a senior career officer with Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and has been serving as Australia’s Ambassador to Greece, Bulgaria and Romania since December 2019. Prior to this he held various high profile roles, including a posting as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates just prior to this role. A career diplomat, he holds a Master of Arts (Foreign Affairs and Trade) from Monash University; Bachelor of Laws, Sydney University/Utrecht University; and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Sydney University. He spoke of his experience and goals in his role. ....

Held at the Hellenic Museum, the event was deemed a success, with full house attendance. Distinguished guests included Greece’s Consul General to Melbourne, Emmanuel Kakavelakis, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, Archimandrite Fr Evmenios Vasilopoulos, state Labor Senator Lee Tarlamis, former state Minister John Pantazopoulos, President of Victoria’s Organising Committee of the National Anniversary Tony Tsourdalakis and GOCMV President Bill Papastergiadis. Ms Charpantidou’s presentation covered the important role of Greek Diasporas leading up to the Revolution, focusing on their contributions in a movement based on Enlightenment and French Revolution ideals. ....
GREEK FRINGE: THRAKI SHOWCASE Explore the music of Thraki or (Thrace) – a region in southeast Europe, now divided between Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey with musicians streaming directly from Greece as well as local musicians playing live. Streaming direct from Greece: “Evritiki Zygia” have a cult following in Greece and have teamed up with renown vocalist – Katerina Douka to bring the traditional sounds of Greece to the world. The live performance will be given by Sydney based group Banda Politika who will be playing folk tunes from the regions of Thrace as well as Macedonia (a tribute to the Great Club’s heritage as the former Alexander the Great Club). On the night you will hear traditional instruments such as the Laouto, Lyra, Gaida (bagpipes), Daouli and more. ....
