Major construction in Galleria area could impact several businesses HOUSTON – Two critical connector ramps at the interchange of the Southwest Freeway and the West Loop are closing starting this Thursday. The project near the Galleria is about to slow down Houston for at least the rest of the year. It’s a huge headache for businesses in the area. First, they had to survive the pandemic, now this years-long construction project could make it a lot tougher for these shops to attract and keep customers. “I just think about the stress, and I’m just like why. Why?!” said Elva Medrano with Liberty Taco. ....
Just when you thought it was safe to get back on the freeway, the Houston area once again rolls out the red carpet of crazy. Normally, traffic warnings might include freeway closures, hazardous chemical spills, hundreds of nighttime bicyclists or people stopping in the middle of the highway for a marriage proposal (we wish we were kidding). One is House Bill 6, which aims to prevent fraud, while increasing criminal penalties. Jonathan White, head of the election fraud division at the Texas AG s Office, recently told lawmakers his office is currently handling a record number of cases. “Our cases are currently at an all-time high,” he told the House Elections Committee this month. “We have 510 offenses pending against 43 defendants in court right now.” “We have a lot of mail ballot fraud cases and that universe is pretty small around that case. That investigation is pretty straight forward. But vote harvesting touches an entire community of senior citizens across multiple individuals working in an organization, sometimes in different layers.” ....
