HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) METRO Houston and TxDOT are proposing big changes to I-10 between the I-610 West Loop and I-45 in downtown Houston.
On I-10 through Memorial Park and the Heights to downtown Houston, you can run into backups at any time of day. METRO Houston is proposing a dedicated busway that would travel the length of that corridor.
According to the METRO proposal, it would extend from the Northwest Transit Center near US 290, and ideally provide connection to the METRORail Green and Purple lines at the heart of the city. The busway would have stops at newly-proposed stations at Shepherd/Durham and Studemont before entering downtown. ....

Houston traffic: Pandemic has changed city's commuting habits, according to new study

Since the beginning of the pandemic, weekly average driving is down 9% in Houston,
Texas is among the states that saw the largest weekly decrease in driving post-lockdown with a 3% drop. That tied with New York. Hawaii, California, Florida and Arizona were the only states with greater decreases in traffic. Analysts attribute much of that to a decline in tourism in those states as well.
Houston s public transportation use is down 44%.
Walking as a mode of transportation has grown. It s up 5%. That may not seem like a big jump, but Houston ranks second in the nation for large cities on how much walking has increased, according to Bumper. Only Dallas saw a bigger increase in walking - up 8%. ....

Houston traffic: Southwest Freeway mainlanes to reopen Monday after demolition of old Galleria-area ramp

Drivers experienced major delays around the US-59/I-610 interchange in the Galleria area this weekend.
The freeway will remain shut down until 5 a.m. Monday in both directions between the West Loop and South Rice.
On Sunday evening, crews were re-striping the mainlanes of I-69.
TxDOT had opened the brand new West Loop northbound connector to US-59 Southbound, so now the old one is coming down.
Crews completed the demolition of two old connector ramps over the I-69 SW Freeway mainlanes at I-610 W. Loop. Crews spent most of the day cleaning up. Motorcyclist dies after crashing into parked vehicle, run over on Eastex Freeway feeder road

HUMBLE, Texas (KTRK) A motorcyclist died Sunday after crashing into a parked vehicle on an Humble feeder road, police said.
It happened around 9:40 a.m. in the 21000 block of Eastex Freeway just north of FM-1960 along the San Jacinto River bridge.
The motorcyclist was southbound on the feeder road when they crashed into a blue SUV, according to Houston police. The motorcyclist was then run over by another vehicle.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Houston Police Department s vehicular crimes investigators responded to the scene to look into what led to the crash.
The victim s identity wasn t immediately known, and there was no word on the status of others involved. ....
