Holland Public looking for community input, adds more reading events


“I want to create focus groups of students, teachers, parents and community members to get some more insight,” Keelean told The Sentinel earlier this month. “It’s important for me, coming in as an outsider to a district that is well established with things in place, to listen and learn about the great work that is going on in the district.” 
Summer reading events added
The district recently announced additional dates for its pop-in reading event series taking place this summer. Each event invites students prekindergarten through third grade and their siblings to stop by for a literacy activity, a free book, sidewalk chalk and bubbles. ....

The past year of education has been a constant wave of change, adjustments and uncertainty. Students were thrust into remote learning to close the 2019-20 school year due to COVID-19, before having to decide whether or not to return for the 2020-21 school year. 
Schools have had to ramp up sanitization efforts in classrooms and buses, provide additional technology for students and find new ways to keep them connected during periods of remote learning. ....

136 infected in 32 new coronavirus outbreaks, says Michigan’s Feb. 8 school outbreak report

A total of 136 students and staff at 29 K-12 school districts and two colleges have been infected by coronavirus in new school-related outbreaks, according to data released Monday, Feb. 8, by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
The biggest outbreaks involved 16 students and staff each at Lapeer High School and at Michigan Tech University.
In addition to Michigan Tech, a new college outbreak was reported by Concordia University in Ann Arbor involving four students.
New K-12 school outbreaks also were identified in 16 counties. Below are those outbreaks listed by county: ....
