Three area schools were added to the state’s School-Related Outbreak Report on Monday, May 3. Holland’s Jefferson Elementary, Holland Christian’s South Side Elementary, and Fennville High School were added to the report. The three schools were listed as having two linked student cases, the minimum number required to be considered an outbreak. Holland Public Schools acknowledged Jefferson would be added to the report in a district update Friday. HPS reported 17 total active cases of COVID-19 in the district, which included eight cases at Holland High and four at Holland Language Academy. To date, there have been 198 student and 49 staff cases in the district. ....
Letter: Vote yes for HPS Build 2021 By Andy and Lois Mulder Holland We urge a yes vote on May 4 for the Holland Public Schools Build 2021 Millage. HPS has been a good steward of our tax dollars. Consider how HPS has handled the COVID-19 crisis. While many districts offered only remote learning, HPS provided the option of in-person learning for its students since August 2020. Safety practices and best practice protocols were followed. Teachers galvanized around our students following these best practices to keep themselves and our students safe. Nationally, we have witnessed how many school districts were unable to agree on how to engage students in classroom learning. But not in Holland. Thank you. ....
