A teenage rowing team was left in tears as officials took their gold medals from around their necks at last week’s Maadi Cup after a controversial disqualification.
Hamilton Boys’ High School’s under-18 novice eight boat – mostly aged 13 and 14 - had won their final at the annual secondary schools rowing event at Lake Karapiro, which attracts over 2000 competitors and about 10,000 spectators over a week-long festival.
But after the medal ceremony, their boat was weighed, and found to be 200 grams underweight. The school believes the boat may even have been sabotaged and have lodged an official appeal to Rowing New Zealand. ....

For the ever-decreasing members of the Hawke s Bay Rugby team that won the Ranfurly Shield from Waikato in 1966, it was a feeling of heartfelt dismay to hear of the death of Gerry Stone, who had played in that winning team.
Gerry was an egalitarian, charismatic, good guy, admired and respected by all his rugby associates and his veterinarian partners and clients. My involvement with Gerry went back to our secondary school days when he played for the Sacred Heart 1st XV and I for Hamilton Boy s High over a two-year period. He was outstanding in their victory in our first year as a fast, hard-tackling number eight off the lineout. We were successful the following season when we both captained our respective te ....

A duo from Cambridge High School have taken out the title for Waikato Bay of Plenty FMG Junior Young Farmer of the Year 2021.
Anna Ede and Ben Ede topped the points table for the regional competition.
The contest for high school students in Teen Ag Clubs was held at the Tauranga Racecourse on Saturday, running alongside the Waikato Bay of Plenty FMG Young Farmer of the Year regional final.
Timothy Lumsden from Hamilton Boy s and Tayla Hansen from St. Paul s Collegiate came in second place. ....
