🥎 14 Jayhawks Named to the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 Softball Team

IRVING, Texas – Kansas has placed 14 student-athletes on the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 Softball Team as announced by the conference Thursday. A total of 13 Jayhawks were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, including two players – Hailey Reed and Tarin Travieso – who posted a perfect 4.0 GPA. This is the most student-athletes Kansas softball has placed on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams since the award began in 1996. KU placed 13 student-athletes on the first team with Shelby Gayre (Exercise Science), Tatum Goff (Community Health), Haleigh Harper (Biology), Madison Hirsch (Mechanical Engineering), Lexy Mills (Business Accounting), Macy Omli (Business Accounting), Sydnee Ramsey (Liberal Arts & Sciences), Reed (Business Administration), Peyton Renzi (Community Health), Jordan Richards (Business Administration), Miranda Rodriguez (Sport Management), Travieso (Exercise Science) and Morgyn Wynne (Journalism) all earning the honor. 🥎 Jayhawks Drop Series Opener to Lady Bears

WACO, Texas – Sophomore Ashlyn Anderson recorded a seventh-inning home run but Kansas softball ultimately dropped the series opener to Baylor at Getterman Stadium on Friday night, 7-1. With the loss, the Jayhawks fall to 22-21 overall and 2-11 in the Big 12, as Baylor improves to 25-15 on the season and 6-6 in the Big 12. Baylor was able to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning with a single run scored. Kansas looked to level the score in the top of the third after Tarin Travieso and Haleigh Harper hit back-to-back singles with only one out. Despite getting runners on, KU wasn’t able to get anyone home.

🥎 Kansas Drops Two at No 9 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – Kansas softball tallied a run in each game but weren’t able to stop the Longhorn’s bats as KU dropped two games to No. 9 Texas on Saturday afternoon at Red & Charline McCombs Field. The Jayhawks battled in the first game to an 8-1 loss, before dropping the second game, 10-1. With the two losses, Kansas falls to 22-19 overall and 2-9 in the Big 12. Texas improves to 34-6 and 8-3 in Big 12 play. Game One – Lost 8-1 The Jayhawks jumped ahead early after Brittany Jackson hit a single through the right side. Macy Omli advanced her to second with a sac bunt, and Morgyn Wynne took first base after being hit by a pitch with only one out. Shelby Gayre battled through six pitches before sending the seventh into left field for a RBI single scoring Jackson.

AUSTIN, Texas – Kansas softball scored three runs in the second and tied the game with five runs in the fifth but it wasn’t enough as the Jayhawks fell to No. 9 Texas in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, 10-8. Following the loss, Kansas falls to 22-20 overall and 2-10 in the Big 12. Texas improves to 35-6 and 9-3 in Big 12 play. Macy Omli led the Jayhawks going 2-for-4 from the plate and brought in a career-high four RBIs. Texas got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a single run crossing home but KU struck back quick.

🥎 Jayhawks Shock No 23 Shockers in 5-2 Upset

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Following a complete-game performance in the circle from Kasey Hamilton and two RBIs from Morgyn Wynne and Ashlyn Anderson, Kansas softball upsets No. 23 Wichita State, 5-2, on Wednesday night at Arrocha Ballpark. With tonight’s victory, the Jayhawks improve to 22-17 on the season as the Shockers fall to 32-6-1. In the 7.0 innings Hamilton pitched, she struck out a career-high nine batters and only gave up one walk. She improves to 5-7 on the season. The Jayhawks got runners on early in the bottom of the first with Brittany Jackson hitting a single and Macy Omli getting hit by a pitch to put two on with no outs. Morgyn Wynne advanced them into scoring position allowing Shelby Gayre to record a sac fly to score Jackson. Ashlyn Anderson continued the scoring action with an RBI single to score Omli and give KU a 2-0 lead.
