IRVING, Texas – Kansas has placed 14 student-athletes on the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 Softball Team as announced by the conference Thursday. A total of 13 Jayhawks were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, including two players – Hailey Reed and Tarin Travieso – who posted a perfect 4.0 GPA. This is the most student-athletes Kansas softball has placed on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams since the award began in 1996. KU placed 13 student-athletes on the first team with Shelby Gayre (Exercise Science), Tatum Goff (Community Health), Haleigh Harper (Biology), Madison Hirsch (Mechanical Engineering), Lexy Mills (Business Accounting), Macy Omli (Business Accounting), Sydnee Ramsey (Liberal Arts & Sciences), Reed (Business Administration), Peyton Renzi (Community Health), Jordan Richards (Business Administration), Miranda Rodriguez (Sport Management), Travieso (Exercise Science) and Morgyn Wynne (Journalism) all earning the honor. LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore Madison Hirsch hit her fifth home run of the season but Kansas softball (22-24, 2-14 Big 12) drops the opening game of a three-game series to Iowa State (29-19, 4-12 Big 12), 9-3, on Friday night at Arrocha Ballpark. Five Jayhawks contributed to KU’s six hits against the Cyclones with Shelby Gayre leading Kansas with two. Ashlyn Anderson, Morgyn Wynne, Hirsch and Peyton Renzi tallied one each. Despite the Jayhawks dropping the game, Kansas was the first team to get on the board. In the bottom of the first inning, KU loaded the bases with two outs. Cheyenne Hornbuckle stepped to the plate and drew a walk to bring Anderson home and give the Jayhawks a 1-0 lead. ....
AUSTIN, Texas – Kansas softball scored three runs in the second and tied the game with five runs in the fifth but it wasn’t enough as the Jayhawks fell to No. 9 Texas in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, 10-8. Following the loss, Kansas falls to 22-20 overall and 2-10 in the Big 12. Texas improves to 35-6 and 9-3 in Big 12 play. Macy Omli led the Jayhawks going 2-for-4 from the plate and brought in a career-high four RBIs. LAWRENCE, Kan. – Following a complete-game performance in the circle from Kasey Hamilton and two RBIs from Morgyn Wynne and Ashlyn Anderson, Kansas softball upsets No. 23 Wichita State, 5-2, on Wednesday night at Arrocha Ballpark. With tonight’s victory, the Jayhawks improve to 22-17 on the season as the Shockers fall to 32-6-1. In the 7.0 innings Hamilton pitched, she struck out a career-high nine batters and only gave up one walk. She improves to 5-7 on the season. The Jayhawks got runners on early in the bottom of the first with Brittany Jackson hitting a single and Macy Omli getting hit by a pitch to put two on with no outs. Morgyn Wynne advanced them into scoring position allowing Shelby Gayre to record a sac fly to score Jackson. Ashlyn Anderson continued the scoring action with an RBI single to score Omli and give KU a 2-0 lead. ....
COLUMBIA, Mo. – An all-around game from Kansas led to a 4-3 upset over No. 18 Missouri on Tuesday evening inside the Mizzou Softball Stadium. From a solo home run via Ashlyn Anderson to precision pitching from starter Hailey Reed and the perfect save from Kasey Hamilton, the Jayhawks battled to victory over their second ranked opponent of the 2020-21 season. With today’s win, Kansas improves to 20-15 overall. Missouri now sits at double digit losses at 29-10. This is the first win for the Jayhawks over Mizzou since April 1, 2009 when KU took down the Tigers 4-1 in Lawrence. Reed commenced the game in the circle for the Jayhawks and notched the win to garner her seventh win of the season after going 5.1 innings. Hamilton pitched the final 1.2 innings and earned her second save this season. ....
