5:45 p.m. update: Austin Wayne Rivers was taken into custody without incident and is being booked at the Carson City Jail. Escaped inmate Cody J. Abernathy remains at large. ••• One inmate who escaped from the Carson City Detention Center on Saturday has been captured and a warrant has been issued for a Carson City man accused of aiding the escape, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. Matthew R. Marizza, 27, was apprehended Sunday in Sacramento, California, following a high-speed chase of a truck reported stolen in Carson City. Cody J. Abernathy, 28, who escaped with Marizza on Saturday, remains at large. ....
Possible 9th Wyoming 2nd Amendment Sanctuary County More individuals and groups are approaching Big Horn County commissioners about becoming a Second Amendment sanctuary, according to The Greybull Standard. There have been enough requests to talk about it that a listening session has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, May 3 at the Weed and Pest building west of Greybull. So far 8 Wyoming counties have declared themselves 2nd Amendment sanctuary counties. Big Horn County would be number 9 if a resolution passes. Get our free mobile app Rep. The county s original plan has left residents with mixed feelings. Some argue that the improvements could help save lives, while others complained about noise from the audible speed strips. Dropping the speed limit to 25 mph, making it a toll road and calling for more law enforcement presence along the drive all were suggestions residents urged the county to consider. A few people, desperate for more law enforcement, said they would pay $45 an hour for off-duty deputies to patrol Indian River Drive. County Commissioner Cathy Townsend, who opposes the audible strips and other improvements, said she now wants to spend some of the county s original $750,000 allocation on SkyCop, a Memphis company that mounts cameras to utility poles to monitor traffic and collect data for law enforcement. ....
12:10 p.m. update: The Associated Press is reporting that the Carson City Sheriff s Office has confirmed that the shooter in the Carson City IHOP incident has died of his self-inflicted gunshot wound. Update 11:45: At least three people, two uniformed members of the National Guard, have died in a shooting this morning shortly before 9 a.m. at the International House of Pancakes, IHOP, in Carson City, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong. In all, 10 people were shot, with three dead as of 11:30 a.m. The suspected shooter, reportedly using an automatic weapon, apparently shot himself and is clingling to life, Furlong said during a press conference. Three police chaplains have also been called in to respond to and speak with families of the shooting victims. The shooting on South Carson Street has the roadway closed at both sides of Highway 395 and at Eagle Station Lane. ....
