Following are some notes on the 2nd- through 5th-place finishers at the Sabine River Bassmaster Elite Series in Texas.
2nd: Brock Mosley
Brock Mosley, who s still in pursuit of his first tour-level victory, turned in his second straight runner-up finish (he also occupied that position at Pickwick Lake last month). It s the second time he s had a pair of 2nds in a two-month span he also did it in 2017 at the St. Lawrence River and Lake St. Clair.
This time, he ended up less than a pound and a half behind winner Jason Christie. ....

Despite a light bag on day 3, Jason Christie remained atop the leaderboard at the Sabine River Bassmaster Elite Series.

Jason Christie had more gas than he needed and more water than he wanted, but the Oklahoma anglers three-day total of 35-11 allowed him to maintain his lead on day 3 of the Sabine River Bassmaster Elite Series in Orange, Texas.
Christie was 2nd on day 1 with 15-01 and took over the top spot Friday by adding 13-14. On Saturday, the Sabine was in a stingier mood and Christie found only a small limit of 6-12. He holds a 15-ounce lead over day-1 leader Brock Mosley. ....

Greg Hackney had two big days in his first tournament back on the circuit following a 2-year hiatus spent with the MLF Bass Pro Tour, but the first and last rounds were a bit of a struggle.
I caught all of my fish out of Lake George and I never caught one that wasn t spawning, he said. The first day I fished to fast that was a short day (due to a fog delay of almost 2 hours) and I was around the same fish I caught the next 2 days, but I was in a hurry because I only had about 3 hours to fish and I caught mostly males. ....

Bryan New launched his rookie season in blockbuster form by topping a stout field of well-established finalists and winning the St. Johns River Bassmaster Elite Series with a four-day total of 79-07.
Starting the final round in 6th place, New trailed day-3 leader Patrick Walters by 5-07. Saving his best for last, New posted the events second-heaviest bag, 26-04, and edged veteran Greg Hackney by a margin of 9-09. For his efforts, New earned $101,000.
New caught most of his fish out of lily pads, but he found a few keepers over main-river shell bars about halfway between Palatka and Dunns Creek, which connects to Crescent Lake. Targeting bars in about 5 to 7 feet, he fished a Berkley Warpig lipless crankbait in the bleeding shiner color with a slow yo-yoing technique. ....

For three days, the question lingered: Would Rodman Reservoir play a significant role in the St. Johns River Bassmaster Elite Series. On day 3, Patrick Walters erased any doubt with a five-bass limit of 26-07 that gave him the lead with a three-day total of 58-10.
Walters will enter the final round with a 3-ounce lead over Greg Hackney.
Rodman didnt play two years ago, and it didnt play last year because (it was in a drawdown). So, I thought it has to be good this year, Walters said. I flipped a coin on it and it worked. ....
