Secretary Condos announces 2020 General Election audit | Vermont Business Magazine

Vermont Business Magazine Today Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos announced the date and towns included in the post-election audit of 2020 Vermont General Election results, which will occur on Wednesday, April 28
th at the Pavilion Auditorium in Montpelier, starting at 9am.
“Post-election audits are a best practice that, as per Vermont law, we conduct after every General Election, to verify the accuracy of election results and provide Vermonters with further confidence in the integrity of the election process,” said Secretary Condos.
Seven randomly selected voting precincts will be included in this year’s audit: Brandon, Pownal, Randolph, South Burlington (Chittenden 7-4), Topsham, Warren and Worcester. Six of these seven towns use optical scan tabulators for the tabulation of election results, and one town (Topsham) uses hand count procedures. ....

Statement of Secretary French on US Dept of Ed announcement on statewide assessment

Vermont Business Magazine Today Vermont Secretary of Education Dan French made the following statement regarding the US Department of Education (USED) letter to Chief State School Officers offering flexibilities to states on statewide assessment, accountability and reporting requirements for the 2020-2021 school year. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, student achievement, or lack thereof, has been a significant issue. Measuring that achievement has also been difficult. School was suspended for a time last spring and then brought back remotely. Even now, there is only partial in-person education.
The announcement indicates that USED will not provide blanket waivers for assessment administration during the 2020-2021 school year. The Department is offering flexibility to states in how and when to offer their statewide assessments, and in their federally required accountability systems. ....

Vermont Business Magazine Today Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos announced the official results of the electoral college votes cast for United States President and Vice President by Vermont’s electors. The meeting of the electors was held at 10am in the House Chamber of the Vermont State House.
