The Hyderabad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed a penalty on ticket booking platform BookMyShow (BMS) and multiplex chain PVR Cinemas for their unruly ‘Internet Charges’ on costumers.
A Hyderabad based activist by name Vijay Gopal has lodged a complaint against BookMyShow and PVR way back in 2019 for levying extra charges without authorisation. This case proceedings prolonged nearly for 25 months and the court has finally found fault with BookMyShow and PVR.
Accordingly the court has penalised BMS and PVR to pay Rs 5,000 towards the Consumer Legal Aid Account of the Hyderabad court. Also the court directed both to pay Rs 25,000 as compensation to plaintiff Vijay Gopal along with an additional Rs 1,000 towards litigation costs. ....

Hyderabad: Hyderabad district consumer dispute resolution commission on Friday has imposed a penalty on ticket booking platform BookMyShow and PVR films for charging “internet handling fees”.
City-based social activist Vijay Gopal had lodged a complaint in the Consumer Forum in 2019, challenging the high level of money laundering in the name of internet charges.
Vijay Gopal had then booked a ticket to watch the movie at PVR Cinemas in Panjagutta through ‘Book My Show’. Internet handling charges were Rs.41.78 plus a total of Rs.341.78. ....

Hyderabad: GHMC’s Directorate of Enforcement Vigilance & Disaster Management (EV&DM) imposed a ₹1-lakh fine on Telugu film actor Mohan Babu for putting up unauthorized advertisement posters of movies on the walls of his residence at Filmnagar. The illegal hoarding was pointed out to the GHMC by netizens over social media platforms. The hoarding outside the actor’s residence had four posters of different movies. ....
