BookMyShow and PVR Cinemas Fined for ‘Internet Charges’ Published by GulteDesk March 16, 2021 The Hyderabad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed a penalty on ticket booking platform BookMyShow (BMS) and multiplex chain PVR Cinemas for their unruly ‘Internet Charges’ on costumers. A Hyderabad based activist by name Vijay Gopal has lodged a complaint against BookMyShow and PVR way back in 2019 for levying extra charges without authorisation. This case proceedings prolonged nearly for 25 months and the court has finally found fault with BookMyShow and PVR. Accordingly the court has penalised BMS and PVR to pay Rs 5,000 towards the Consumer Legal Aid Account of the Hyderabad court. Also the court directed both to pay Rs 25,000 as compensation to plaintiff Vijay Gopal along with an additional Rs 1,000 towards litigation costs.
