COUNCIL bosses have recommitted to regenerating the town centre, with work well underway to transform large areas of the town. Work has begun at numerous developments across the town centre, including plans to build 124 town houses around St George’s Road and Bark Street, and the new YMCA facility in Deansgate. The council has also given an update on when it expects work to begin on the redevelopment of the Crompton Place Shopping Centre. Plans are being put in place by the Crompton Place developers, Bolton Regeneration Ltd, to start demolition of the shopping centre towards the end of the year. ....
Residents have reacted with anger at plans to build an apartment block and homes on green space. A planning application submitted by Watson Homes, proposes to demolish an existing bungalow and build nine new houses with a four storey block of 36 apartments in the Johnson Fold area. This would be on land off Grizedale Close, adjacent to Moss Bank Way, which currently houses one bungalow with a number of trees. However, residents have since expressed their concerns about the effect this development would have on the wildlife on the site and the loss of trees and green space. People living on adjacent roads are also concerned with a potential loss of privacy that might come with a four storey apartment block being built right behind some houses. ....

Residents have voiced their concerns over a planned canalside housing estate, saying “Little Lever can’t take it.” Residents around Mytham Road and Cedar Avenue say they are unhappy with developer Watson’s plans to build 297 one, two, three, and four-bedroom houses and apartments across three locations. The plans include building 178 properties at the Cream Mill site at the end of Mytham Road, a mixture of greenbelt and brownfield land, with another 96 at Hall Lane. Residents are afraid that plans are being pushed through without proper scrutiny due to the coronavirus pandemic and that their concerns are not being properly heard. ....
