Martha Foley: What is thirst? I mean we all know what it feels like and it s really handy. Because then you know you should drink some water.
Curt Stager: Well it s a sensation that tells you you re out of balance, right? But maybe another way to word it would be: how does your body know to tell you that you should drink? We already know that when your body tells you to take a breath it s measuring something in your blood. First you might think, well, it must be measuring the oxygen in your blood and you re running low. It s actually a little more complicated. It s measuring the waste product of your breathing, the carbon dioxide. ....

SLC Arts holding online poetry slam Friday

POTSDAM â SLC Arts will be hosting its first virtual poetry slam competition this weekend.
The competition will be held this Friday at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom and will feature 12 competitors and four judges. The event is sponsored by North Country Public Radio.
âItâs a little different than just a regular poetry reading because it incorporates the element of preforming and theatrics as well,â SLC Arts Programs Coordinator Jenna Clute said of the event.
Competitors are encouraged to log onto the zoom call at 6 p.m. and the first 12 will be the chosen competitors. The judges will include Rajiv Narula, John Berbrich and Amanda Stopa Goldstein, as well as one random audience member. ....

The growing calls for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign amid multiple allegations of sexual harassment and a nursing home scandal have focused attention on the state’s second-in-command, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Though a familiar figure in the Buffalo area, Hochul is not exactly a household name around New York State. The lieutenant governor, in her sixth year in office, has stayed in the shadows compared to the attention-seeking Cuomo.

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul is not exactly a household name around New York State. The lieutenant governor, in her sixth year in office, has stayed in the shadows, compared to the attention seeking Andrew Cuomo.
Until recently her most notable public appearances have been to introduce the governor at the annual State of the State speech, and talk up his agenda.
“
For nearly a decade, Governor Cuomo has demonstrated time and again, what skills, experience and bold leadership can deliver,” she said at the governor’s address in January, 2020.
Hochul visits the Westcott neighborhood last June. She stopped at the Rise N Shine Diner. ....
