CANTON The Canton Village Tree Committee recently launched two major projects related to maintaining existing trees and planting new trees in the village. “These projects will usher in a new era of care and enhancement of the public landscape, which enhances property values and makes our community more attractive for local residents, businesses, workers, and people just passing through,” said Richard Grover, committee chairman, in a press release from the group. ....
POTSDAM â SLC Arts will be hosting its first virtual poetry slam competition this weekend. The competition will be held this Friday at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom and will feature 12 competitors and four judges. The event is sponsored by North Country Public Radio. âItâs a little different than just a regular poetry reading because it incorporates the element of preforming and theatrics as well,â SLC Arts Programs Coordinator Jenna Clute said of the event. Competitors are encouraged to log onto the zoom call at 6 p.m. and the first 12 will be the chosen competitors. The judges will include Rajiv Narula, John Berbrich and Amanda Stopa Goldstein, as well as one random audience member. ....
Tuesday, February 23, 2021 - 10:18 am CANTON Education is like gardening, according to a SUNY Canton chemistry faculty member. Rajiv Narula, Ph.D., who was recently promoted to associate professor within the School of Science, Health and Criminal Justice, quoted an adage identifying gardening and teaching as labors of love where each plant or student is individually cultivated to thrive. In education, each person s success is more important than the aggregate results, he said. Narula is also the faculty member most closely associated with the college s pollinator garden and Kenneth Theobald Botanical Nursery, which helps nurture saplings to be replanted on campus. In addition to chemistry, he teaches environmental science, and a first-year experience class. ....
