LCPD defends shooting dog that rushed officers LAS CRUCES, New Mexico The Las Cruces Police Department is defending the shooting of a dog that rushed two of its officers earlier this week, calling it an unfortunate and tragic incident. The officers responded to a welfare check when police said the dog charged at them, leaving them no choice but to fatally shoot it. It happened on at a home on Willow Street just west of Interstate 25 and north of Lohman Avenue around 2 p.m. Monday. According to police, a man made a 911 call requesting a welfare check for a potentially suicidal relative who lived next door. ....
View Comments LAS CRUCES – Doña Ana County reported no locations on the New Mexico Environment Department’s COVID-19 rapid response watchlist May 25, after seven months of at least one county location the list. Doña Ana County businesses or entitles such as schools or medical facilities have appeared on the watchlist since it was introduced Oct. 20, 2020. A location was added to the list if at least two COVID-19 rapid responses were reported within a two-week period. Locations were required by the state to close for two weeks if they had four or more rapid responses unless they were deemed essential. ....

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in leisure and hospitality, which includes restaurants and bars, had the largest growth with 331,000 jobs added. Restaurants and bars grew by the largest chunk within that sector, but the report still said leisure and hospitality remained 2.8 million jobs below pre-pandemic employment. In widespread media reports, restaurant owners, in particular, have said they ve had difficulties hiring workers and blamed the issue on extended, enhanced pandemic unemployment benefits. Pat Crawley, who owns El Sombrero Patio Cafe on Espina Street, said her kitchen is suffering due to staffing shortages she blamed on unemployment benefits. She said her restaurant is desperate for cooks, runners, bussers, hostesses and servers. ....
