Leland police upgrade to CrimeMapping tool for residents to track nearby crime

LELAND The Leland Police Department has been providing residents a crime-mapping source to track offenses that have taken place in their city, on their streets and in their neighborhoods over the last few years. According to town spokesperson Hilary Snow, it’s part of the police department’s mission to strengthen relationships within the community and communication.
“The benefit to residents is that they can access crime data on their own without having to request police reports, and they can access that data as often as they want, and pinpoint certain areas of [t]own and/or particular incidents that may be of interest or concern to them,” Snow said. ....

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Leland Police Department is working on self improvement after participating in a reform initiative last year.
The Collaborative Reform Initiative takes a look inside participating police departments. It allows agencies to identify their strengths and also see in which areas they could improve.
For Leland, the police department found that its training process was its strong suit, but it needs some work when it comes to recruitment and retaining employees. ....

LELAND, N.C. (WECT) - Police in Leland are asking for help identifying a suspect in a larceny case from Walmart that happened at the first of the month.
“The Leland Police Department is investigating a reported larceny from Walmart. Detectives need help identifying this person shown in the photographs. Please contact Detective Hutt at 910-332-5009, [email protected], or any officer at the Leland Police Department,” a Facebook post reads. ....

LELAND – The Leland Police Department are looking for a person of interest that they say assaulted a store employee in the 100 block of North Main Street on Sunday. They say around 10:30 PM a man allegedly punched the victim with an unknown object after the victim asked to see the individuals ID while they were attempting to purchase packaged liquor and other items. The suspect was described as a Black male, 17-21 years old, approximately 6’0″, 180 lbs, glasses, wearing a black face mask and a grey hooded sweatshirt. The victim was taken to an area hospital. An update on their condition was not available. Leland police are asking anyone with any additional information on this incident to contact them directly. ....
