BRUNSWICK COUNTY –– Around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, Leland police officers were dispatched to an address on Leland Station Drive to assist with a medical call. Eric Andrew Cinotti, 46, arrived at the scene and represented himself as a police officer for the Town of Navassa. He was wearing a black exterior ballistic vest with “police” written in 2-inch bold white lettering in the front and displayed a Navassa Police Department metal badge that stated “detective,” pinned to the left chest of the vest. Cinotti was openly carrying an unknown make and model black semi-automatic handgun on his right hip and had a police radio in his possession. ....
WILMINGTON –– The U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force has made an arrest for a 2014 hit and run that killed the victim. Edwin Romero, 35, was taken into custody Thursday in Wilmington, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department. Police reported Romero fled to Mexico after the incident and later came back to Wilmington. Romero is currently being held on a $10,000 secured bond. The Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force is made up of members from the U.S. Marshals Service, WPD, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, state Department of Public Safety Special Operations and the Leland Police Department. ....
